Watch refresh!

Guys…. I did a thing. So I love my orient ray 2. I actually bought this off Amazon (stock picture #3) about one year ago for $180. I thought it looked good! But the bracelet was sooooo chunky and I didn’t love it in a nato (ended up being too bulky). I didn’t want to get rid of it but I had a hard time picking it up. That is now no longer a problem.

This watch gives me a little bit of black bay 36 vibes while still having a heft, a rugged aspect to it. Such an easy option for a budget GADA watch now!

I bought a pilot bezel for a seiko SKX from Namoki mods ($38) and a new oyster style bracelet form strap code ($99). I am so happy with the results.

Did I remove part of the utility of this watch? Yes. Do I dive in my normal day to day life? Absolutely not.

If anyone has been contemplating changing out the bracelet on their orient watch I highly recommend 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾 the subtle taper and the slightly more intelligent design is worth it in my opinion. Let me know what you guys think!

Imho Awesome mod!!

·

That looks really good!

·

Lovely mod. I can see what you mean about the BB36 looks with that smooth bezel and agree that the bracelet upgrade looks great. Wear it in good health!

·

Great mod! I think you breathed new life into it!

·

Great mod. You made a watch that Orient should have made...but then that would cut into DressKX sales.

·

That is so sick! Nice job man 🍻

·

Turned into a dressy little number! Cool mod.

·

Great mod! Now it’s the dress KX!

Like you, I adore my Ray…..

that looks outstanding!👌

·

I like your mod a lot.. 👍 I wonder what other colours would look like with the same bezel mod.

·

Good job mate 👌🏻

You could’ve gone for a SRPE67/SBSA057 from the get-go but you managed to convert it to one ;)

I’ve been thinking about doing something similar. It looks great!

·

Looks amazing my friend good job 👌

·

Looks great!

·

Very nice job!! That’s what I love about the entry level watches from Seiko and orient. If there’s something you dislike about it you have to option to change it to your preference.

·

Looks amazing. How was the bezel fit? I’d be scared to try with a different model but this is encouraging

·

That looks so good !!!

·

Dude that’s badass.

·

Looks awesome man

·

Did you just Marlon Brando'd your... I want to say Orient Ray. Huh, that's kinda cool.

·

Kinda unique - which is always a good thing.👍

·

Uau! It looks great, congrats! GADA vibes all the way! 👌

·

Looks great, and thanks for the compatibility info. I like to tuck bits of information like that away for future reference. Just curious, how did you know the SKX bezel would fit the Orient?

·

Well done! An improvement for sure. 👏

For sure! I only knew the bezel would fit because of a couple mod videos I’ve seen on YouTube and long island watches sells SKX bezels and inserts that are fully compatible with the orient mako and orient ray! I was actually really nervous that the bezel wouldn’t work because it came with no gasket, of course I took the old one off the original bezel and it allowed the new bezel to sit super flush!

The fit was great after taking the gasket off of my old bezel! There’s almost no gap so it’s a night final fit! No play no wiggle !

From where did you bought this bezel?

Namoki ! They sell mod accessories and I believe full watch build kits!

Mmm I think any of the orient colors would look great! It would probably make the color pop a lot more too!

Would you be able to post whatever videos or product descriptions you found that say the SKX bezels fit orients? I’ve been looking for YEARS to see if anyone was making smooth pilot bezels for a Mako USA II and everything I have read said that the SKX ones either don’t fit or you have to get crafty with a diy retaining wire which I’m not going to bother with. Most of these sites even have separate orient bezels. You mentioned the gasket from your original bezel. Do you mean you used the original gasket with the pilot bezel to make it fit or do you mean you took the gasket off entirely so the bezel fits better with no gasket at all? Thanks!

Hey! I’m sorry for my delayed response. So to be transparent the bezel itself fits the case BUT there is no point of contact where it “clicks” into place. What I did was use the gasket that came on my original bezel and I very carefully set it between the new piolet bezel and the case/ just below the crystal of the watch. It was annoying… it took a few tries to get it on there tight. And to make sure it wasn’t spilling out of the side of the case or out between the case and crystal.

There’s no guarantee that it won’t just pop off one day but as long as I’ve had it modded it hasn’t given me any problems. It wasn’t spinning/ sliding/ or protruding from the case. It definitely was flush.
