Who doesn’t like lume?

Who doesn’t like crispy clean lume! That’s one of the reasons why I tend to be attracted to dive watches. My preference is the blueish hue on BGW9 but, I do like the super-luminova with how bright it gets.

What do you think about lume on a watch? Is it a must have or a nice to have?

It's a feature that is desirable but the actual use is rather lacking in my experience. For pure aesthetics, lumed hands and even dial pips are not without their tradeoffs. Slender hands, blued or fully polished hands, slender or delicately shaped hands just don't really work with lume. Of course I'm more of a dress and vintage watch type than a dive/tool watch person.

But yes, lume is the slightly grown-up version of glow-in-the dark toys. More importantly, do any 80's children remember the Hasbro GI Joe doll, er figure figure, Zartan that was made of a plastic that took on a greenish tinge in sunlight? Did that concoction ever get used anywhere else for anything?

I love lume. I’m a simple man.

Sick watch!

·

Lume is great when freshly charged with 900 lumens from a Fenix PD-32.

But when you wake up 4 hours later to pee it becomes kinda meh.

·

I find myself in darkened rooms quite often in the night. Lume comes in very handy and is missed when absent. plus it’s just cool.

And not just for watches…

Love lume. I have a soft spot for tritium. Nice watch by the way!

I don't care about it a bit. I never go from direct sunlight into darkness which is the only time it works. I don't even consider it in selecting a watch. 😕

I love lume! It’s kinda like an alter ego for a watch. Plus it’s a lot of fun to photograph esp. if you have a UV flashlight

My russian handwinder lumes the whole night without fading out- nearly as bright as a flashlight. I m pretty sure that radioactive things going on there. As (atm) i just have lumed GShocks beside i m used to poor lumination.

Question: wich brands offer blue instead of green lume? I d like to have a lil variation in my collection

Pelagos lume is sick!

You gotta have a good lume watch in a collection. If find it very useful and I tend to pick my best lume watches when I need them.

Grand Seiko collectors!

Lume is a must for me. Indices and hands must have lume for me to even take a watch seriously.

Something satisfying about a nice, bright lume. Love it.

·

I found that Lume is not really a useful feature in daily life because the transition from day to dusk and night takes a lot of time, during which the lume will usually faint. It's good for party tricks or from an esthetic POV and I do like lume and it's a consideration when I buy a watch, but I have to admit that the auto light feature on my GW-M5610U G-Shock is more useful and effective.

Brands as expensive as Rolex and as cheap as Deep Blue have blue lume.

Wife: Hey, what are you doing alone in the bathroom with the lights out?

Me:

That exact scenario has happened to me and now she just doesn’t even ask anymore! 😂

I really dig lume, especially on diver watches. It also shows how good is the watch made. Not only strenght but also application is important. Regarding the hue, I really like Citizen's aqua colour which is a bit different than BGW9.

Lumes for me is a nice to have but not a main driver. My eye sight isn’t as good as it used to be so lumes aren’t really that useful. That being said I do like taking lume shots😂

Nice piece and nice shot!!

Well, if you're into well built and useful EDC tools, you're likely to be drawn to Spyderco. It's a bit like the Seiko of knives.

That’s a good description of them. First time I held a PM2 it was magic…sigh…okay back to watches.

My FAVORITE lume hands down!

No Lume can be classy and if done right it’s less noticeable.

Like my Hesili New York Original Series 1.
