What is a Winter Watch ❄️☃️?

If a dive watch often is associated with summer; hence the water resistance the go anywhere character, the metal or rubber bracelet which won't deteriorate under sweat etc. ; what is the opposite of it?

What is a Winter watch? A dress watch? I don't think so? Is there something like a winter (spring or autumn) watch or are they just watches and some of them get knighted as "summer watches" because of their vibe 🤪?

I'm looking forward to the discussion in the comments!

Cheers! 😎🌞🏖

Explorer or explorer inspired on nato reads winter to me.

·

For me it’s my vintage pieces. Almost all of them are on leather straps. So for the warmer period I use my more temporary watches on a bracelet (and occasionally rubber). During folder month the vintage watches can come out and play.

I believe anything thin enough to slide easily under a cuff qualifies as a winter watch.

Or a Santa-themed diver 😀

·

Depends. I tend to wear more leather straps in winter and my less WR pieces, to work or casually, but still stick to natos and bracelets for winter sports or outdoorsy stuff.

Explorer II polar?

Same watches for me, regardless of season - but generally Bracelet in summer & NATO in winter

(I use the terms "summer" and "winter" as vague approximations of the seasons, I'm British) 😂

To me it's my Casio/G-Shock.

I don't know how cold is too cold for my mechanical watches but when it's -20°C or colder, I feel more comfortable with my cheap and cheerful stuff. Backlight is also nice in the dark winters.

This accompanies me when outside clearing snow during a Kanuckistan winter 👍 😉

What a great post, you beat me to it👍!

Summer watches are colourful and playful, and not reserved for water activities only, it could also be a dress watch ie. Prx mint dial!

Winter watches I assume would be warmer looking pieces, ie. darker dials, gold / bronze hour markers , hands , logo, à la BB58 so to speak.

If it has warmer tones, it could be a fall/winter watch for me!

I wonder if the Grand Seiko Snowflake model is considered a winterwatch, as it has a light coloured dial which for me gives me that summer vibe.

Field or GMT. Or a Field GMT. Regardless it needs a dark dial.

·

This is obviously what you need to survive the cold winters

Something less colorful/muted to Match the darker colors of clothing etc. Preferrably something on a leatherstrap aswell

A bunch of Grand Seiko seasonal watches.

You are asking the right questions 🤔

·

I would say it is the same watch but with leather strap to avoid the cold freezeing bracelet!😂

Can't argue with that.

A winter watch is a black Diver , name your best one for everyday. Mine is the IX &DAO Serica 5303 homage . My homage has a better movement ( SW200 ) than the original which is broken ( Seica's Soprod had many issues with the crown and movement )

Kanuck = Canadian, Kanuckistan = Canada 😉

·

In Scotland they're not called "winter watches". We call them an "every day wearer" 😜

My GA-7900 has a low temp LCD, that’ll work for me!

I think anything that looks good on leather. I prefer to wear leather straps in the winter time. Luckily the U50 would look great on a brown leather strap.
