Today I received my Sinn U50 back

Hello Crunchers,

Today I was at Sinn to pick up my cherished U50 from the first service.

I was in Frankfurt for business this week anyway and was able to combine the pleasant with the useful.

The visit was super pleasant, there was also coffee and chocolate and I was able to take a close look at all the new 2024 watches such as the U50 Hydro.

Despite having a great time there, I was surprised that the watch had been there for 6 months for the standard service. Are such long times common? What experiences have you made? I look forward to your comments.

Have a wonderful afternoon!

No experience with Sinn yet but I must that HQ looks very nice!

No experience with Sinn, but Seiko UK took 3 months to replace a bezel insert!!

Omega took the same amount of time for a full service & crown repair on my 2015 SM300 heritage.

That was a painful wait, can only imagine how horrific a six month wait would be!!

Beautiful watch tho & I'm sure you'll be happy now you have it back 👍🏻👍🏻

6 months? Long waits are usually due to parts, and if Sinn HQ is short on parts…not a good sign…

Yes, very happy indeed. Fortunately many watch enthusiasts have some watches left, even if the A-Team is out for servicing. 😉

6 months to service a sellita?

I would go to a local watchmaker, and be done in 2-3 weeks.

I think, the watch is currently "too new" but I'll definitely will consider it in the future. But to be honest, there aren't many watchmakers in my "local".

Six months for a service is wild! I don’t expect really fast, but Omega serviced 2 watches for me. The first was 12 weeks, the 2nd was 10 weeks. Tag Heuer just serviced a watch for me and it was 8 weeks.

Edit: these times are from the date I shipped it until the date it came back, not how long the brands had the watches.

Very interesting, thank you for the insight. My time is almost the time they had the watch. Shipping took not longer than 2 days and I picked it up myself.

I don't even want to think about how long North- and South American or Asian, African or Australian Crunchers would have to wait, if they don't have the possibility to service the watch on their continent.

Sure thing! Fortunately, in America Sinn uses RGM as their service center so we don’t have to ship it outside of the country. Funny you posted this today because I’ve been thinking hard about getting a U50. Such a cool watch!

Must be a coincidence! 😂 Besides the service times I can only say positive things about the watch!

Very cool. But are they also able to service the more special Sinn technologies like the Hydro watches or Diapal or the AR technology?

You know that’s a good question. Can’t say for sure. I just know they’re the authorized service center for Sinn in the US.

I've heard from other people who visited the Sinn mothership, that the problem begins with the global shortage of watchmakers, and is compounded by the lack of watchmakers in Frankfurt specifically.

Sinn wants to hire more watchmakers to help with servicing, but most of the trained/experienced watchmakers are on the other side of the country around Glashütte, and it is hard to recruit young people in Frankfurt to pursue watchmaking as a career.

·

What a neat display case thing. All the clasps and bracelets there to play with.

·

What a cool experience. Being in America there aren’t many opportunities to pick up from the manufacturer. I sold a Sinn recently and expect to pick up another down the line.

Oh yes, I can imagine that. The Sinn HQ is also not really downtown which would come with some prestige but in the north of Frankfurt near industrial buildings and a Porsche Dealership. What I'm trying to say: You wouldn't expect a watchmaker in that part of town.

Yes, I had no idea that they offer that many bracelets and straps. But to be honest, the tegimented u-boat steel bracelet is hard to beat. 😎

Do you already have a specific model in mind? Which one did you sell? 🤔

I sold my 556 Carnelian Red - first dive into Sinn. As much as I loved the dial and all, it seemed to sit funny and pitch on the top of the wrist a little funny. I think I would prefer a 40mm sin thats more rounded out. Maybe a chronograph down the line - I always liked their salmon dial limited editions

Very interesting. I thought, the 556 is a wrist pleaser. The Salmon dial is beautiful but in my opinion a little too far away from the roots of the brand Sinn.

Wow - tha certainly seems a bit much for a standard service, but I've not sent a Sinn to the AD before. When I took mine to my local watchmaker, it took approximately 3 months to get it back and that included repairs to the reverser wheels. Anyhow, glad you have it back. Great piece from an incredible brand.
