Let’s Settle The Debate Once and For All!

All right crunchers. Is an Apple Watch a real watch? I personally think it’s a wrist computer. But I want to know what y’all think!

You're dreaming.

The debate has been going on at every watch forum on the internet since the Apple watch was first released. It sure won't be settle once and for all with this poll.

I think it fits the criteria to be called a watch.

Others don't.

There hasn't ever been, or will ever be a concensus.

(A&C are the same answer)

My watch is old (Apple Watch Series 1 - stuck at iOS 6), but on every screen that is not an input screen (e.g., composing a text), the time is displayed. I think Apple's designer Jony Ive was a watch nerd, which is why Apple calls the different items that can be put on the screen "complications." Indeed, my 23 year old daughter would not know what a "GMT" or "chronograph" watch face was if she didn't have (and use) them on her Apple Watch.

Goes on the wrist

Tells time

Has lots of other complications

=

An insanely complicated mechanical marvel

Or a Casio

Or an Apple watch

@foghorn A & C are sorta the same answer. Because A is stating that an Apple Watch is DEFINITELY a watch. While C is more like you don’t care/mind that it’s technically a watch. Hence the “meh” lol

I only wear mine for workouts and golf.

But they both say it's a watch. Which it either it is or isn't. The reason behind the answer doesn't matter.

Well the Pulsar P1 announced itself as a time computer, so are we to say that only analog watches are watches?

It's a watch.

It is funny you think this will settle the debate. :-) Before the end of the month we can be guaranteed another few dozen posts.

If I had a dollar for every post that I have seen on this topic I could get on the list. No screw that I can go grey market. LOL

Give me a strap long enough and I'll show you that a microwave is a watch equal to the Apple thing.

Except that the microwave is probably prettier.

I am Groot.

Meanwhile I can POSITIVELY state this is a BIG. GOLD. SKULL. Dressed as a watch.

C. Although by this definition a smartphone is an oversized pocket watch.

It’s a watch as much as my phone is. While it does tell time, that is a tiny fraction of what it does . . . More computer than watch. And, there’s nothing wrong with that. It is a fine product. Not a thing for me because I don’t see any reason to give more personal data to the corporates than they already cull. But, to each their own.

This should be obvious to everyone.

And as the photo indicates, it makes the Season more festive too.
