Grail

I think I found my grail 🤤

Anyone have the reissue or the original 222 Jumbo?

Brad Pitt has one. I don’t know if Brad’s a WC member.

Does anyone actually have this watch?

Yes as to the new one. There are several on sale too on Chrono already.

But I was actually hoping to see the original from the 70s-80s on someone’s wrist.

@JaeBust does! Lucky dog!

Thank you, @Beanhead, for mentioning that I have this humble VC 222! 🤷🏽‍♂️🥂🍾

I know this seems picky but, in my opinion a grail watch should be from an independent company not from a conglomerate. Watches are subjective of course. One person's grail is another person's beginner watch.

I'm of the opinion and of course this is just my opinion that a grail watch should not be influenced by corporate agendas.

I know that rules out alot of brands but I wouldn't even want a Breguet as a grail watch.

Also, I don't believe there is such a thing as a grail watch. I promise that the moment you purchase your "grail" watch, another will become more desirable eventually.

We are always looking for the next best thing.

I think “Grail” is subjective. It’s what you are chasing to own one day - the thing just slightly out of reach

i’m curious to understand why the independent nature of the watch brand holds such significance for you.

For me, is the one that is completely out of reach. Unfortunately.

I really don't like gold, and there's no moment or situation in my life where I would feel comfortable wearing an all gold watch. But the 222 would be the exception to the rule. It is just mouthwatering and grotesque in its beauty. I would dare to say the most beautiful watch.

I leave you to your opinion, but could you elaborate where the corporate agenda differs from the “independent” company? To me it’s both fueled by money…

On the 222 also a watch I would count as a grail watch, shocked a VC AD though when I asked if they had one, while explaining to my wife; it’s basically a much nicer prx :-D

I agree. There is just something to the 222. The vintage styling, etc.

That said, the VC 42052/423J-8967 would be my temporarily scratch the itch.

A grail can be from any brand AFAIK. It’s all relative and subjective.

·

I like it, but I wish it had a more dramatic taper from the watch head. It’s one of the reasons I like the Seiko SNK063J

Psh. Too big.

Until they come out with a 38mm version I'll have to take a hard pass.

& you can't tell me they aren't getting kick backs from Big Wood.

In my mind just seeing @JaeBust watch collection, he might really be Leo DiCaprio. To the OP, that is some grail. Only at Watch Crunch can a Timex collector hob nob with someone who has a VC as a grail and someone who actually owns one. For the record, my grail is under $1,000 and I'm conflicted about buying it. lol.

Nearly all watch companies with history started as small independent manufacturers. Not sure I would rule out a 1915 Omega Aviator Chronograph because it's not from an independent company. 🤔

·

I would do unspeakable and depraved things for that. 👌

Yes to everything here but also stop being a hater by dismantling the fragile foundations of my obsession

Mama Mia! I forgot about Jae! My bad brother! Once again you have amazed me

I love this watch--truly grail-worthy and gorgeous--but I feel compelled to point out that if it was about $73,000 cheaper, the entire watch community would complain about the date complication, 50m water-resistance rating, 40-hour power reserve, the lack of micro-adjust, and that it's not even COSC certified. 😕

·

Boringly remember looking at getting a steel/gold one quite a few years ago, before all the hype, but in the end settled for what I thought was a slightly more practical and sturdy first gen Overseas. Hey ho, we can't always make the right decisions!! I've got a watch with the old 1121 movement in it, and you don't want to be changing the date too often, it's a right pain even with the "semi-fast" wind back to 9 and wind forward to 3 method that the movement allows.
