Does anyone care?

I was just thinking today. Other than the odd watch enthusiast you may run into during your daily schedule, does anyone care what watch you're wearing? Does anyone even notice?

I would appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

No, The truth is that no one cares and many pay more attention to the cell phone or smart watch, only those who do notice the watch are the thieves to assault you on the street 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

·

I've had people at work and at my unit notice my watches. It's usually my Duro that gets people's attention, or my skeletonized Kenneth Cole. They like to see how it works.

·

Behold all of the people who care about what I am wearing IRL. Outside the hobby and would be thieves, no one cares about our watches.

Nope, No one cares. There are more Apple watches than any other brands.

·

Never had any comments whatsoever without me pointing it out and demanding a conversation about it. 😁

·

There is a great Teddy Baldassare video on YouTube that is called something like "Non-watch people react to watches". Very eye opening for me that people really don't care, as much as we want them to. 😊

·

Nobody cares, except that i sometimes wear both my Formex and my Fitbit (on opposite wrist), which sometimes sparks a question/comment.

·

I have had two people tell me that I had on a nice watch. One person asked me if my black bay was an Invicta. I would say that no one cares.

I think my $20.00 Casio gets more attention than my Tudor.

People notice your watch, just not in the way watch people do.

How often do you notice the brand and model of shoes people are wearing vs. the person who looks odd because their shoes don't match their clothes? I'm guessing you notice the latter a lot more than the former. The same thing happens with watches.

People notice that you're wearing a watch. They notice whether your watch matches your outfit. They notice whether you watch stands out, or blends in.

They do not notice brand, or model. They don't notice if it's a diver, field, or pilot's watch...

Edit: AS I've said many times previously, there is a massive difference between people noticing things, and people commenting on things. Most people don't want to seem creepy/weird, so they don't comment on everything they notice.

New people don't care, but people that know me and know that I like watches often ask me about what I am wearing or come to me when something "watchy" happens in their lives. It's always super interesting for me to let my friends play with my collection and let them pick their favourites.

Same for me at work office, people know I'm into watches and ask things about getting relatives presents etc, I wear a Garmin on my right wrist also so people think I've gone watch crazy! Sometimes you get asked about what you're wearing because they notice the dial colour if its obvious. Wear your watch for yourself!

·

No one cares at all what so ever in the slightest

·

Most people won’t notice the watch exactly. But I believe they notice the intent. Wearing a nice watch says something about you that’s more than telling the time. It’s not always about ‘flex’ but more like how your dress sense is an extension of your personality.

They do, however the attention you do get from the odd watch enthusiast is worth so much more as they actually understand the watch culture and that can start some great conversations 👌

·

I notice others, but no "real" person really cares.

·

I talk about this sometimes. Nobody cares but the occasional watch guy. 99% don't even notice my watches lol

·

But isn't it great when another watch enthusiast does notice? I was at the doctor and commented on his watch. You should have seen how excited he got to tell someone about it who actually cared.

·

In 40 odd years of wearing watches I think I've been complimented or had my watch queried a dozen times, so no it doesn't matter 1 iota.

·

Been wearing omega watches since 1987 got my first speedmaster 25 years ago have had many many other watches Tudor jlc grand seiko etc and I’ve had someone recognise my speedmaster twice and someone mistake my alipinst for a Rolex and that’s it in more than 35 years and over 100 watches

Nobody cares which is why I like watches. They are for me and me alone

·

Not really. I’ve only been complimented on my watch 3 times. Once about a Casio Edifice (300 USD), and twice about a Seiko Samurai (500 USD). Never a single comment about my luxury watches, Omega, Tudor etc.

·

No one cares. I even tried to start a few watch discussions with colleagues wearing decent pieces : Rolex Seadweller, IWC pilot watch, Grand Seiko with spring drive caliber. Never lasts more than 10 minutes.

Then just mention Tesla and the conversation gets very animated and may last a solid hour.

Go figure.

Off topic but the Isotope is nice! How do you like it?

Love it. A friend sent me a picture snd I immediately ordered it. One impulse buy I have never regretted.

·

Not even close

·

Only the watch thieves

·

I've had a few people comment on my GMW-B5000D G shock. It's the only watch that anyone has ever said anything about.

·

The only times my watches have caused comment was my two cheapest, shittiest, most oversized ones! A ridiculous Skmei with three faces and a terrible Jaragar navitimer knock-off.

·

Nope. The only few times I’ve had individuals directly glance or ask about my watches were:

  1. Dude at gym glanced at Frederique Constant Yacht Timer Regatta

  2. Friends of a friend asked me about my gold PRX at his birthday braai (BBQ)

  3. Dude at gym glanced at my Cronos GMT-Master homage, probably because I’d just got done rinsing it under the tap

·

I do receive compliments on my watches from time to time but nothing more than "oh that's a nice watch" which is just aesthetic commentary, no one actually cares what brand, style or price your watch is

I've met exactly 3 watch enthusiasts pretty much ever, the second was just last week, and the first was the guy who got me into the hobby, only for me to realise he just cared about luxury 'status' as opposed to actually liking watches
