So I've been good this year and not bought a watch since August 2022. I've just been saving and seeing how the market was going to play out, plus nothing really grabbed me to the point where I want to buy it.
But now in late 2023 I have a list of options...but the difficult thing is, I can only really choose one. This I where I would love the input of the WatchCrunch Fam. Now I know I should pick the watch I love best and other people shouldn't influence my decision; however, I'm still curious as to what other watch enthusiasts think. So here are the choices (and yes I have a thing for black dials):-
1) Rolex Explorer 2 226570 in black
2) Fears Brunswick 38 James Porter Limited Edition
3) Tudor FXD Black
4) Horage Supersede Date
5) Rolex Sea-dweller 16600 (post 2000 ref)
For some context, I already own an Explorer 36mm, Seiko Slim Turtle SPB317 and Vintage King Seiko 45-7001

Explorer II
I would go with the Sea dweller, but dont listen to me, Im currently in love with the subby and cant think about anything else.๐
I like the explorer ii and the fears and somehow am more drawn to the fears but that may just be the nicer photo of it.
Tudor FXD Black or Sea Dweller

I didn't take the photo of the Fears sadly, that's probably why you like it more ๐
The Fears is the more interesting watch to me
All great Watches but the Fears for me all day long ๐๐ป
Another vote for Fears
The Fears is the most left-field - and therefore most interesting - choice. The fact that it is also stunning isnโt a drawback, either.
Fearsโฆsince you already have field and dive watches and the Fears looks versatile enough to fill in dressier duties
I also vote for Fears. Based on what you already own, it seems Fears is different style than the rest of your collection. Plus the Fears is a looker too. Therefore, I would add Fears to diversify the collection.
The rolex fanboy in me says the seadweller but the specs on the new FXD are great IMO
Fxd to add another diver or the Fears Brunswick for me. Handled it in person and itโs phenomenal and Iโm slightly biased as a Fears Archival owner.
Always a fan of the Explorer II, but honestly that Fears LE is the one that stands out from the bunch, in my opinion. Pelagos comes in 3rd for me. Best of luck in your decision! ๐ป
Another vote for Fears
Some considered thoughts there my friend and you've given me something to ponder.
And it makes it more interesting moving forward. Having one dive watch in your collection doesn't mean you can't buy another. BUT, when you buy another, no more watches until you sell one of your divers. Buy another Rolex, but no more watches until you sell a Rolex. Your collection can evolve, but for me at least, there's no satisfaction in owning them all. If your jam is owning every generation and iteration of a Rolex Submariner, then go for it. Me? I like for every watch to have a role and a place. And I want quality/uniqueness over quantity.
I can't wait for the WRUW photos of your Fears.....
I love my FXD Black. Superb
I would recommend the Fears...
2) Fears Brunswick 38 James Porter Limited Edition
I have the Fears Brunswick Jubilee and it is a fantastic watch. It came on a purple strap (which is quite nice), but the bracelet takes it to the next level...
I'm waiting (and hoping) that my pre-order of the Fears Brunswick coronation edition in 18k gold will soon be completed...
Horage is criminally underrated.
That fears Brunswick looks sublime ๐๐ฏ
The fears and the fxd are both cheaper than the explorer ii combined so.... that's all I'm going to say.
The fxd intrigues me, definitely unique but lately I've been on a bracelet binge and natos wouldn't be my first choice ๐ค
Tudor
The Fears is very much Laurient Ferrier

Is that a good thing or bad?

Throwing a vote for the Horage. They are the one to watch going forward for sure! That bracelet is too good and it disappears on my wrist. I love my gmt
