Next target?

In standard watch collecting habits. I am thinking about several watches for the next piece. There are pros and cons for every watch that I am eyeing off, but be good to know how the community feels/thinks of some of the choices.

Potential targets (can't do a poll, not enough boxes):

  • Christopher ward dune GMT

  • Grand Seiko SBGM221

  • Lorier Hydra

  • Lorier Flacon

  • Longines Spirit Zulu Time

  • Traska GMT

If you have own or currently own the watches, comment about how great (or sucky) it was to own them.

I’m not an owner, but I’ve very nearly bought the sbgm221 a few times. What kept me from it was one of the lauded GS features ironically. The Zaratsu polishing. Even the display pieces had little micro scratches from people handling and trying them on. Far too delicate a finish for me. Such a beautiful watch though.

·

Wow I would be happy with any of thes watches. I’m a big fan of microdrand so CW and Traska have an edge for me. Lorier not much but that Zulu is stunning. You can’t go wrong here! Enjoy the chase my friend this is the best part of our hobby

·

Tough call brother: I think I’d personally go for the Longines or the GS. Lorier look great but you Igor have to wait a few months for them. CW doesn’t overcome the GS and Longines in my view, if you place them in competition with one another.

The answer is always Zulu

Zulu time 39mm on my 6.5” wrist is one of my favorite watches. Both the deployant leather strap and the bracelet have micro-adjust. Running around +2 sec/day 👍

Longines Zulu time on my bucket list! IMHO it’s a stunner and that green is gorgeous in person!

Wow that oozes charm! All the colors work so well together!

·

Zulu gets my vote!

·

Lorier all the way.

Owners are good people, good value for money, have callbacks to classic watches, but still have their own design language.

The falcon might be the best value per looks out there that is a true homage and not a clone, IMO. Under $500 and an actual no date movement to boot.

The Hydra has amazing lume, sweet asymmetric case, and love the ghosty blue color.

Hydra is in stock right now btws.

I'm a bit biased, as the Longines is my current grail, and I'm saving up for it now. However, I really like the CW and the GS. I think you'd be happy with any of those.

Yeah I have the same feeling with that too. I do have another GS, the first scratch definitely cuts the deepest

I love Lorier but all their models are out of stock quite often. Hopefully the bottleneck that’s slowing down their production can get sorted out. As someone who has worked multiple fields of manufacturing, I know it’s out of your hands some time. If they can get thing squared away, I’d love to add one of their models to my watchbox.

·

Personally, if the Grand Seiko SBGM221 is an option, the others aren't even part of the conversation. I have seen this one in person and it is stunning! I love most every watch you're considering, but they don't hold a candle to the GS.

All great choices but that Grand Seiko looks special.

·

I would love to get into a micro brand this year, and CW, Traska and Lorier are all on the shortlist as potentials. The GS is definitely in a league of it's own, and I always feel like scratches or wear marks just add to the story, personally so if it's in the wheelhouse, that's the one I'd go for!

·

Well damn. These are ALL watches I'd buy and want to buy! Great taste!!

·

Torn between Zulu and CW.

·

Love this piece. Goes with anything except water. 😉

The SBGM221 is a great piece and a great entry into Grand Seiko. You will not be disappointed. For the money it is fantastic. The finishing is amazing and it can be paired with so many different straps.

·

I have a GS GMT quartz. Great watch and the most comfortable bracelet I have.

·

Out of this bunch GS no doubt. It’s not close.

I really want the 37mm but it’s only got a push pull crown. The 40and larger have screw down. I wonder why they had to change it up for the 37mm

·

Got mine less than a month ago. Personally think it's a step above the other watches you've listed but obviously just my opinion.

Well, let's do some detective work.

(I can't see the traska photo for whatever reason, so excluding that)

4/5 are GMTs

3/5 are black dials

4/5 are mostly, or entirely, using indices and not numerals

3/5 have no rotating bezel

3/5 are about or under 1000$ USD

3/5 are on bracelets as pictured

So my vote would be the CW dune GMT with a black dial on a bracelet.

You're welcome. 😂

·

I own a sbgw231 and is similar in tone to the GS GMT - it blows all your other options out of the water

·

All of them! Wow hard to choose but that cw dune gmt jumped right out to me

·

With the selection you put up here, and with the money: GS all the way.

I myself don’t like this exact model but that doesn’t matter given the sheer quality you get with ANY GS.
