I just can’t bond with it!

I just can’t explain how excited I was to get this watch. Beautiful design, great build and just plain cool. But for some odd reason I can’t bond with it. Am I crazy? I’m actually thinking of parting with it. I’ve tried a lot of straps but nothing changes the distance I’m feeling. Should I hold out hoping it grows on me or move it on for something else? First time this has happened so I’m looking for advice.

How long have you owned it for?

·

Too many watches in the sea to waste your time trying to force the bond with a design that doesn't click with you. You don't have to like everything, or you don't have to own everything you like. You can also just like it on other people's wrist.

·

Its a classic so unless you have to sell it to fund something else I would just put it to one side. Failing that how much do you want? 😁

Good watch to give your wife!

·

I love that watch and sad they sold out!

·

Life's too short to compromise. If it's not floating your boat.. sell it and move on.

·

Sorry to hear. I have mine on and love it. Why not put it away and take it out in the Spring. It may look better then.

·

Strap changes didn't work...hmm...well you won't have a problem moving it as it's always sought after

·

I’ve had the same thing with a Red Seiko Cocktail Time. I was sure I was going to love it but for some reason I just don’t. I guess it happens to all of us sometimes.

·

It’s not for me, prefer the seagull movement in the classic seagull design

·

keep it for 2 or 3 months if nothing happend sell it or swap it

·

It’s an acquired taste. I’ve had buyer’s remorse plenty of times. If you don’t love it, sell it and move on.

·

Why did you buy it? Because people love it or because you wanted it? It is a very nice piece but not for everybody. Consider making it yours bu playing with straps. Maybe you find something for you. If not, then sell it and move on and buy something that scratches your itch.

·

It’s not just you. I fell in love with Mint Chocolate Chip model from pictures and ordered one of the v2 when they became available. I love the look of it but only when it’s not on my wrist. I think it’s the case design. It’s too tall and the strap is too low.

I’ve had it for a year now but despite trying again and again, I just never enjoy wearing it.

it’s going on eBay next week. I don’t have room for watches I don’t love wearing in my collection.

·

I'm a strong believer that there are watches we can love but aren't right for us to wear, in our own minds, and it can be tough to pick up on that before it's purchased.

Unless you're in a hurry, I'd say hold onto it a bit. Maybe take it out a time or two a couple months down the road. The market for that isn't going anywhere, so might as well take some time to be even more confident in your decision to let it go if you're not chomping at the bit to use that money for something else.

·

Sometimes it just isn't for you. I've even fallen out of love for some watches because my taste has changed. But if the love isn't there at first then I doubt very much you'll grow to love it. Lust and love go hand in hand.

·

That’s a shame , If resale is ok then sell it or gift it to a loved one maybe . Really colourful watches aren’t my bag , I tend to like classics even though I like to look at other people’s quirky timepieces:) good luck with your decision.

·

It happens. Same thing happened to me and my Longines Heritage Military. 😔

·

Those are cool, but they are super over priced

It’s basically a $150 suguess

So if you don’t like it flip it

🍻

There is a trend for more and more colourfull, flamboyant watches. They look great in photos but in real life can be hard to match with clothes etc.. There are plenty of watches like that which I really like the idea of but know I just couldn’t pull off wearing myself. Your Watermelon is like that , I could maybe be OK with the desert or Panda version.

·

It’s a cool watch 😎

If your don’t “feel” it, move on…

I’d suggest putting it a side and coming back to before parting with it, to avoid sellers remorse

·

There are many watches I think wow that's cool! But I wouldn't own it. This is one. As funny as the watermelon is, all my watches are fairly sensible. Great watch, but realistically I'd never wear it

Also whilst it's a great design and movement, it does feel a slight but steep of an asking price

·

Well... it is a watermelon on your wrist

I think that it is normal that you cannot bond with it

Probably it was a hype/spontaneous purchase and now you just saw it for what it is... too funky :D not that it is bad, however, it is too cartoony for grown-up men

·

I would say it’s worth what you paid, you are not going to enjoy so let someone else.

·

I have to say, I never got the whole Studio Underdog thing either. Kudos to the brand for getting the attention it has but I've never really liked the typeface, design, colour themes, or anything with a Seagull movement (300$+ to service, any many watchmakers refuse because the parts are too poor quality). Seems very overpriced.

·

If I'm gonna bond with watch it needs to be Rolex 6328, Omega Seamaster, Breitling Top Time, Gruen Precision, Hamilton Pulsar or Rolex Submariner... oh wait.

Yeah I understand that certain watch didn't grew on you, I once had Seiko Prospex PADI Solar Titanium Limited Edition and I let it go almost dirt cheap because it didn't feel like me.

·

I think that the hype around these watches, due to the insane demand & limited availability, has led to the impression that this watch is a low level "luxury" watch. I think there's a danger that buyers expect the £500 watch to be way better than the sum of it's parts.

It's a really cool design & there are features of the watch that are more akin to more expensive watches (exhibition caseback, finishing of the movement parts). It is however still a £500 watch & isn't going to be the crown jewel of anyone's collection.

If you're not lovin it, there's plenty out there that would bite your hand off for it.

·

I feel you OP, I felt the same about both the Lorier and Furlan Marri I’ve briefly owned. It’s made me realise that a feeling of “density” is important to me. I’m not opposed to a bit of jangle, but I don’t like the feeling of lightness or hollowness.

I think the new Baltic chrono is gorgeous and I’m considering spinning the wheel again but I’m fairly sure I’ll have encounter the same issue

·

Same thing happened with my Fraser , didn't like it at first , changed the straps like you ,then put it back on the original strap then started to love it , it's now getting more wrist time than my explorer 2, sometimes it just takes time

·

It happens to all of us. A watch that you can only live with after you’ve bought it only to find you can’t live with it. It’s what happens when you can’t “date” a watch at a physical store. I’d say move on. Life’s too short.
