Which Omega would you pick?

I'm down sizing my watch collection by selling my Breitling superocean (old version) and Oris aquis calibre 400 to help pay for one these Omegas. The other watches remaining in my collection would be Omega speedmaster 3861, Oris big crown pointer date green dial, Tudor pelagos 39mm and Grand seiko sbgn005 blue dial.

Would this be a pro or con? The aquaterra would fit my 6.75" wrist a little better with it being 47.4mm lug to lug. The smp is 50mm

It’s a huge con. It’s a “you just made a beautiful watch and then ruined it by adding on a giant barnacle that serves no purpose” kind of con.  I guess it could be useful as a thing that digs into your wrist, but it has no other useful qualities.

Honestly it doesn't really bother me 🙄

SMP for me. Mind you, they are quite different.

AT is dressier though.

They are different but I'm trying to round out my collection.   I have the pelagos for a diver,  Speedy for a chrono, GS for gmt and Oris for a field.   The AT imo would be my dressy watch but I feel it's easier to dress down the AT than dress up the SMP.....

·

The AT oozes class, while at the same time riding the fine line between being dressy and being sporty. As nice as the white dial SMP is, if I were faced with the choice of the two, it would be the AT in a heartbeat. I don't think you'd go wrong with either of them though.

Yeah your 100% right with can't go wrong either way.  All my watches are pretty casual so the AT would be a nice addition but that white dial is killer.   Also the AT has a shorter lug to lug with 47.4mm and the SMP is 50mm.  I have a 6.75" wrist.   Lol first world problems 🙄

I assume it doesn’t bother a lot of people or they would have gotten rid of it.

My wrists are the same size, and even though I have a few watches that are 50+mm lug to lug, I definitely prefer keeping under 50mm when possible. I agree that the white dial on the SMP looks awesome with the contrast between it and the black dial and hands, but the blue dial on the AT is pretty freaking nice too.

I tend to prefer the older SMPs (with the more subtle wave pattern), and the newer ATs (with the date at 6). I have an "Electric Blue" SMP from 2008, and even though the lug to lug is 52m (with the protrusion of the end links), it doesn't wear really large on my wrist. That may be helped by the fact its only 11.8mm thick.

Great looking watch.  I'm leaning towards the AT since the rest of my watches are pretty casual.

I was initially turned off by the 300M’s helium escape carbuncle, but now I don’t even notice it.  The dial, bezel, and bracelet though, make for a great looking and super-practical watch.

·

Having a read through the watches you already own, I’d go with the AT. If you didn’t own the Pelagos, I’d say SMP.

·

I have them both, my AT is central seconds and my SMP is the NTTD. Both great watches. AT is a dressier watch and more versatile. That said I like the AT but love the NTTD. It‘s and amazingly well made watch. Rounding out the collection will be the AT though, so it got my vote.

No matter how much I don't like the dial of the AT, I dislike the kettle steam whistle of the SM even more.

I’d go SMP but if I may; you already have a great collection even after selling the Brietling and Oris 👍🏼

I’d go one step further and sell the other Oris for a nice 3-watch collection of the Speedmaster, SBGN005 and Pelly 39.  put the balance cash into an even nicer dressy watch thats beyond the AT.

Hmm not a bad idea.   Any thoughts on what dressy watch?

SMP seems to be the most versatile of the two

Honestly I think it's easier to dress down a dressier watch than dress up a more laid back watch so imo the AT is more versatile.  Thanks for the comment though 😊

·

So I've been considering getting an Aqua Terra and that small seconds is one I would definitely consider.  I think it's a beautiful watch and still very every day wearable.

That said the Seamaster 300 feels like a better replacement for the Breitling and Oris you are selling since its also a diver. So if you're looking for that diver style, that white dial still very versatile for most situations and still geat piece.

I'm kinda leaning 300 based on what you're replacing.

But also feel no wrong choice.

Looking at your choice of AT, im pretty sure You’re into a watch that could dress up or down?

if so, and looking at your movement collection, I’d go for a GS Spring Drive. Possibly the SBGA413/415. If you have extra funds, why not the Spring drive White Birch. For something totally different I’d save up even further for a Santos de Cartier.

if you’re looking into a pure dress watch, i’d say the GS Omiwatari or the Cartier Santos Dumont XL. Hope that gives you some ideas :)

Yeah I've had my eye on the GS sbga415 winter but the bracelet isn't that great. The new Cartier blue pvd bezel with white dial is killer but just a little to pricey for me right now.  I love full on dress watches like the JLC reverso but I'd never own one because I wear more casual.  A reverso with a hoodie? Maybe 🤔

Imo all my watches are more casual and wouldn't mind a watch that is just a little bit more classy like the AT.  Your right though, either way I don't think you can go wrong 🍻 I think you should get the AT small seconds and let me know how it is 😜

·

I just went into my AD and tried on both AT small seconds and Seamaster 300m and with them side by side my eyes kept being drawn to the white seamaster diver.  Don't get me wrong the AT was really nice but that great white seamaster was stunning 😍 I think I'm going to wait till watches and wonders are over then decide.   Maybe something better will get released 🤔

I'm becoming a big fan of the Seamaster

Yeah the storm trooper 300m diver with white dial is killer as well.  Awesome PO

·

I would definitely go for the AT. I picked up an earlier version in 2016, and it's still my favorite watch.

Versatile, understated, and brings a lot of enjoyment.

I am bias...

The 8900 series movement in the ATs gives you the jumping hour without hacking.  Could be super useful if you travel frequently.

Both are great, but I give the nod to the SMP.  It wore better on the wrist for me.

I was able to try them on and look at them side by side a couple days ago and thought the smp wore better as well and with the white dial I couldn't stop staring at it.  When I took a closer look at the AT it was really nice plus the jumping hours hand is a perk but it just didn't do it for me like the smp 😍 The bracelet on the smp is nice but could use a little refinement. Maybe a classier bracelet with quick adjust still, taper and more pwr reserve.   That's not asking much right lol I'm going to wait till after watches and wonders just in case they upgrade the smp.  🍻

I purchased on the rubber strap and swapped out to the bracelet in the photo.  For the exact reasons you mentioned.  That one is from Seamaster – Uncle Straps - Great custom bracelets, which fit and wear great!

Checked it out and it looks really good. I didn't see how many micro adjustments there were.

9 on the clasp that I purchased - the US1450.  They are not quick adjust though.  Set with a pin.
