Did anybody order a studio underdog today?

I've looked but find them a tad (?) overpriced.

I was there from the first second they start pre-order. End up in 5 minutes, and will get it on July 2024. I order watermelon. Pricy? Relative. Beautiful design.

I have both the watermelon and the mint choc. The watermelon has the wow factor, but I think the mint choc is a very nice one too. All of them are, not even sure where I am going. I think you're going to like it. One thing that surprised me is how "stiff" the crown is when winding. My Hamilton is buttery smooth in comparison. And even my Seikos feel much more refined. But the design trumps it all. A bit disappointed at the fact that the chronograph hand does not perfectly align at 12 o'clock in either. It's minor, but it's there. Hopefully yours will be perfect.

I know right! I’m finding a wait doesn’t bug me either. I’m thinking of getting a different pre order with a 9 month wait 🤪

The reason Studio Underdog have to do the pre-order model is because their demand has grown at a rate in which their supply can’t keep up….

Think of it like this…The watch production cycle for a microbrand is 1-2 years per project. However, in the case of a hyper successful brand like Studio Underd0g, by the time you get to the end of one production cycle, because they did such a good job, they’re already behind on orders again.

So it’s literally impossible to operate the way you’re suggesting. They simply haven’t sold enough watches to have the capital to keep up with the demand so they have to do preorders….this preorder window almost doubled all the watches they have produced up to this point.

They were just founded in march 2021 and it takes many years for a business to find its production flow. They’re taking steps to make sure everyone who wants a watch, gets a watch. I think if they were really trying to manipulate demand they would decide the amount that would produced, rather than leaving the window open. They also actively cancel flippers orders…

Although the preorder model definitely promotes FOMO and general hype that can lead to some frustration; I think this model is much better as it sets clear expectations and allows everyone who wants a watch, to get a watch while also allowing the business to operate efficiently by knowing their production numbers.

The only way you’re able to have constant stock as a microbrand, is to either not be popular or to be of large scale(ex Christopher Ward).

That whole pre-order concept basically boils down to the Micro brands doing a Serie A financing round , using their costumer instead of investors so they just never give away equity for their free cash-flow and buildingg nothing in terms of a business , and getting 100% sales return minus R&D ( which is like getting a tax return for colouring school ) , and doing it again the year after , and the year after that . The genie is out of the bottle . Name a single other business vertical that puts this on their client ? just one …. other than MCDonalds …. whatch companies just invetend another level between Break-even and Chapter11 . I get it . It’s a tough racket . But Cheating the game isn’t a solution . That said as long as they deliver it won’t be too much of an issue but how long can a company play that card before they start managing their funds the right way ….For now , growth means hiring more people to answer angry emails of people waiting for the watch they paid for last year and already paid taxes on

Im not trying to convince anyone and you should certainly spend your money however you want .That being said , If you go out of your way to get in my conversation , please have the decency to at least bring an argument and show you can contribute something . you see ! i knew you could o it . and that’s a perfectly fine answer . Because I stated a business reality doesn’t take away from a fine product . And as long as people know what they re getting into , I have no problem with the situation . My issue was for people who don’t know and therefore maybe taken for a ride . And you’re still wrong but you’re allowed to be ! You don’t know shit and you like watches . And that’s not illegal 👏

If #britishwatchmakersday was a week earlier I would have ordered a Watermel0n, that's for sure.

Never seen the watches in the flesh and having been underwhelmed with a Sugess ST1901 I wasn't sure.

Picked up a @Studio.Underd0g Ham and Pineapple at the show and I am hooked!

Just wish I had found Rich and got a barcode from him for a Watermel0n, probably for a Pink Lemonade too! 😭😭

What Rich and the team are doing is so good for British Watchmaking, and the watch industry in general.
