New Cartier Santos

Do you think the new Cartier Santos white dial with blue pvd bezel be your centre piece of your watch collection?

No.

No, some classic deserves to stay that way. This is one of them.

No.

Why not? It's got the heritage and quality.

With the pvd bezel it's not going to be a scratch magnetic.  That's gotta count for something.   I was always on the fence about the Santos because of that beautiful polished bezel.   Now with this new model I don't have to worry about it as much.

There you have a point👍 But by look alone? Not sure about that but that’s just me.

I feel like I need to see this in the metal before I weigh in. I love the color blue, and the coating will help with the "scratch magnet" problem. All that being said, it does feel a little odd

·

Mine? No, too much blue IMO. Others'? Sure why not.

no

·

Yeah, I love it, but if or when I buy my first luxury watch, I might go with Grand Seiko or this.  It will be a tough decision.

·

I said this in a previous thread about the Santos but I think it is ugly. I don’t get why it is so popular.

·

I think a Santos could definitely be a centre piece. Would love to see this in person as the blue looks like it could be a lovely deep rich colour. For me though, when I finally get my Cartier, I think I will be going more old skool.

·

I think if you love the watch, that’s all that matters. however for me, if I want a modern design, I will buy a modern watch. I realize it’s unfair to pigeonhole Cartier this way, but to me, I want my classic-style watches to look timeless. They are the only watch company today, that can make a watch that looks like it came from the 1930s, and people will still buy it. This is not that. In 20 years, it will look 20 years old.

Yeah it's different.  I think we're all used to seeing polished bezel and it's throwing people off.

Thanks for the input.

I've loved the Santos since I first discovered it. I had my eye set on the blue dial version, but had major concerns about the SS bezel being a scratch magnet. Once I discovered the WSSA0037, with the black dial, SS case, and black ADLC bezel, I decided it was the best option for me. I like the new 2022 versions, but still prefer my WSSA0037, as I feel it's a bit more versatile.

The Santos is definitely not a watch for everyone, but for those who appreciate its design, it's one helluva great watch.  It's probably not ideal for an "only watch", but is awesome as part of a collection.

So do you think it could be the center piece of a collection? Your watch looks great.

I find it difficult to pick out one specific piece that I would consider the centerpiece of my own collection, but it's probably safe to say that it's one of my favorites.

That particular Santos would not be my choice. I just got this Santos yesterday. I absolutely love it, but it’s not my centerpiece.

How much are you loving that quick change bracelet and quick toolless sizing? That to me is just pure genius! Cartier does not get enough credit for that among enthusiasts.

For sure - both QuickSwitch and SmartLink are great. I'm having a tough time deciding whether I prefer mine on bracelet or rubber strap, so with QuickSwitch I can switch effortlessly between them to my hearts content in a couple of seconds. The SmartLink makes sizing the bracelet a breeze, but the lack of half links and/or micro adjust can make a perfect fit somewhat elusive.

Congrats on your recent acquisition!  That blue dial version that you have is the one I had originally wanted, since I love blue dials. I've never actually seen it in person, and am afraid that if/when I do, I may feel I made the wrong choice :-), even though I'm super pleased with mine.

The blue is gorgeous in person. I was lucky to get one. I went in to a NYC AD and I didn’t see it. So I asked to try on the regular one just to confirm I am okay with the size. I mentioned in passing that I really wanted the blue one, and she stops me and says “I’ve got one”. The short version, they do not put out the blue one because it gets sold immediately, so they reserve it for people who ask for it specifically. She told me a lot of ADs do this, so if you don’t see what you want, always ask!

That certainly shows that it's always a good idea to ask.

There is no Cartier AD within several hundred miles of me, unfortunately. The only way I had been able to try on the WSSA0037 was that another member of our local watch enthusiast group happened to have one which he let me try on.

·

No. I detest fake (Or real) screws on watch heads. This one drags them onto the bracelet just for good measure....

·

I love the Santos, but this just doesn't work for me!

Nope maybe a part of my collection but not centerpiece.

Just ordered the blue dial with blue pvd. Been waiting a long time for it.

Congrats! It's an amazing looking watch. There's a waiting list for this watch? If you don't mind me asking what country are you in? Hope you enjoy the new watch 🍻

Thanks!

I’m in New York. I ordered it and it showed 2 weeks. I’ll post it in WRUW as soon as I get it. My only concern is that I have a very small wrist and it looks big even though it’s 39.8mm. I’ve seen it on smaller wrists and it looks a little big. Round 40mm watches look fine on me so I guess I’ll have to see.

·

Also for me I love the blue pvd. The silicone strap makes it a little sportier. For me that will be my less flashy every day go to. I’ll use the metal bracelet when I go out. Yes it’s classic which is part of why I like it. It’s very well known and now can be dressed up and down. I think it’s gorgeous.

·

Yes. Personally I’m a huge fan of the Santos de Cartier, but the bezel is such a scratch magnet, so this variation is perfect
