SOTC: who's had enough?

You've seen hundreds. But I'm feeling left out.

So here's what's in the box as we begin 2023.

It's a big year for me. And I'm planning a big purchase. But when something comes in, something's gotta go. Because I'm not buying a bigger box.

What can I do without? And who wants to take it off my hands? Or should I say wrist.

Very nice group!

Lovely collection. The Hamilton would be on a shay nail if I were looking to slim down, as you already have a field watch in the ranger and you have a day date in the seiko 5

·

Nice collection!  Of course those Tudors are magnificent.    I'd be lying if I said I wasn't eying that Mondaine.  I'm looking to add a stop2go to my watch box this year.

It's my only Pilot watch and I've actually tried to part with it before but couldn't. Love the connection to Interstellar too much.

Funnily enough it's the only one that I could never part with, as my wife gave it to me on our wedding day.

A movie watch is a key part in any collection

She made an excellent choice.

I'll try to whisper "Mondaine stop2go" in my wife's ear while she's asleep.  Maybe she'll show up with one or maybe she'll wake up and look at me like I'm cray. 😆

I think the gold casio can go - across the other three you are well set..

·

It's my only World Timer and only gold piece for when I'm in the mood! (probably have an excuse for every piece to be honest). But something has to go. And it's definitely a candidate.

·

You just need a bigger box...LOL

·

I’d add something with a colorful dial. The Seiko 5 pales in comparison to the Tudor Ranger. If you can’t part with it, you could knock it off the counter top onto the hard floor like my son did to mine.

·

Great collection!
I would add a Longines Spirit Zulu Time and also add Junghans Max Bill, but I don’t know which ones to replace. #longines #junghans

I white or silver dial is on the shortlist!

That way danger lies.

·

Great collection! What are you planning to bring in?

·

One of the casio boxes will go.  The other watches took you more time and effort to acquire.  You like wearing the seiko and tudor too much to let go.  Your mondaine is your dress watch.  You haven't grown tired of the moonswatch yet so it is still in the centre, you don't seem to wear it much though.  The hamilton, not sure where it fits in other than to have a day-date complication as an EDC.  You might actually get rid of the hamilton if the new watch has day-date complication you like more...

·

Are you planning to keep the top row mechanical and the bottom row quartz?

If so, then no matter how much I love the Mondaine Swiss Railway watch, then that is the one that should go (especially if it is the quartz reference as it is out of place in the top row).

Looks like you have the mechanical dive and field watch spaces covered, so maybe add a nice mechanical chronograph or a nice dress watch.

Awesome collection!  Loving those Tudors, and funny enough the retro Casio World Timer!  (I had one just like it when I was living overseas).  You clearly have a perchant for rugged, field style watches, so if "balance" was a criteria I would be moving to a dressier luxury option, probably a GADA one.  On the other hand I will say this:  your tastes will change over time, and also buy only true to yourself, not on conceptions of how others will view your collection (with concepts like "balance", unless that is important to you).  It is easy to try to rationalize the  make up/balance of one's collection, but IMHO you are better served by purchasing what really sets you on fire (if you are lucky enough to find a few pieces like that).

Teddy Baldassarre mentioned in a video a month or so ago that he was not planning on giving the state of his collection anytime soon as he really wanted to be buying only for himself, not on the perceptions/observations/comments of others.  Wise advice from somebody who probably has more perspective than many of us amateurs.  :)

Thank you.

You're right about the field watches. Something dressier is definitely required at some point. Maybe a dressier field watch! It's no secret an Explorer 1 is on my list. So the Ranger might be on its way out. But maybe not.

Not too worried about balance. A new dive watch won't mean one has to go for instance.

I'd love to replace the Casio A500 with a vintage Rolex day date in gold. That would certainly take a lot of time and effort to achieve!

While the Hamilton isn't the cheapest, it's become a bit of a beater. And it's part of the core rotation.

The MoonSwatch is just a novelty and I highly doubt I'll ever wear it much. It's high on the list for an exit.

The Mondaine is the only one in the box that could never ever go. So might need to make the bottom row quartz/digital and move it down.

A mechanical chrono is on the shortlist. But not at the top.

What is your impression of the Mondaine

·

Great collection! I love your Mondaine watch!

Looking forward to see your big purchase this year!

What is your impression of the Mondaine

I've had it almost a decade and think I've only replaced the battery once. Still love the design. And it's the only piece that will never leave the collection - as my wife gave it to me on our wedding day.

·

Except the Swatch we have very similar tastes!  Good on you.

·

Great collection! Your BB58 is definitely my favorite of the group!

·

They all serve different functions, style wise. Buy the bigger box.

The Ranger is for the chop I think.

·

Get a BIGGER Box ! Lol

·

A 10 piece box is plenty big for a collection you’re putting thought into and OK with letting the watches you value less (not necessarily $ less) go.
nice collection
