In Memory of Dad

Dad died two months ago. He was a recreational scuba diver. Although he was gifted a Rolex at age 50, the only watch I remember him wearing consistently was a Seiko diver. I remember playing with the bezel constantly as a kid. I wanted his team (me, my brother, my mom, my wife, and my kids) to have watches that recall him. Since I can’t afford six Seiko divers, I picked up Casio Duros that look just like Dad’s old watch (which itself is long gone). I hope they like ‘em.

P.S. I wanted to inscribe the casebacks, but there’s so much printing already on them that it can’t be done.

And sorry it looks like the rightmost watch is flipping you the bird.

Sorry for your loss. Brilliant idea and you chose a fantastic watch. There's a little room under the casio logo on the caseback to put a set of initials and maybe a date? Etsy has some engravers that will happily do it for you. Best of luck.

Thanks very much for the good thoughts and the engraving tip. Had a specific “inside joke” inscription I wanted. No way it‘ll fit. Instead, I’m just gonna accompany each watch with a letter on phony letterhead from “Dad.”

What a wonderful way to commemorate your father. Hope you and your family find peace and joy in these watches and his memory.

·

Great idea to honer his memory! You'll have to post a Team wrist shot here!

·

Well done! 👏👏👏

Sorry to learn of your loss. What a great tribute to your dad and I concur totally as I recently picked up a Casio Duro of my own and love it. I'll bet everyone on your 'team' will be quite touched by the gesture.

I usually don’t like watches as big as the Duro, but this watch brings me tremendous peace. The sound and feel of the clicking of the bezel makes me feel like a little kid again.

I’m glad you’re enjoying yours, and thank you for the kind words.

I think your idea to honor your father is wonderful.  I feel your pain, as I lost my mother over the last year as well.  Seiko was the choice for professional and recreational divers, myself included.

After all is done, I've realized the good times and great memories remain.

Wonderful idea, I hope all in your family get a smile and a good memory from this gift.

John, Thanks. I’m sorry to hear that. My condolences. I’m still so awash in the demands of my parents’ and kids‘ affairs (and my own neglected medical needs) that I haven’t have the chance to just sit back and let the good stuff wash over me. I know that will happen, and I welcome it.

Great, great way to honor the man! Every family occasion, he will be remembered because of the uniform watches.

Your father raised a good man!

Your father raised a good man!

That is incredibly kind of you to say. Not sure how true it is on the daily, but I sure am trying.

BTW: Loved your sweet double wrist shot with your daughter. My daughter (my oldest) turns 18 today. Such a flood of memories and feelings.

·

Great idea! You have put your watch hobby energy in to some great use here.

·

Im sorry for your loss Andrew. I know what you’re going through. But keep your head up you’ve got kids now.

you mentioned about the Casio watch which I have one & yes there is a lot of writing on the back, have you looked into getting a plain backed replacement from an aftermarket store? ❤️🙏

R.I.P Andrews dad

·

Thanks for your kind words, my friend. I did indeed wonder whether I could just replace the casebacks with plain ones. That would have been cool, but I needed this task off my rather long  to-do list, so I didn’t bother. Instead, I included a letter with each watch stating some things the recipient should know.

·

Fitting tribute to your father, mate. Sorry for your loss. Your family members will truly appreciate your gesture, and wear these pieces with fondness. 🤝

·

Condolences to you and your family. It's sad to hear about the passing away of family members. Love the awesome team watch idea.

Thanks for the idea, and for your willingness to help me out. The original post was months ago, and the watches are already distributed.
