I held back on this purchase forever. I had no way to sample or even see one in person, and there are such strong opinions running both ways on this watch. In the end, three factors swayed me:
Had money in the watch fund after unloading a few pieces. One was a Bulova Precisionist which I loved for the movement but not for the fit or the looks.
I’m a sucker for Apollo stuff, and have no affinity for a Speedmaster (maybe just a little for one of those new snoopy moonphase moons watches…).
Watched a series on Netflix starring Hilary Swank as an astronaut leading the first crewed mission to Mars. Put me in a space mindframe.
So now it’s here. It fits brilliantly and looks beautiful. I can see how the size and thickness would be problematic for some, but it’s not an issue for me (7.5”). I would prefer a version with a brushed finish rather than a polished one, but that’s a small preference, and otherwise it’s exactly how I wanted it (with no date and a strap, and a tolerable price).
Now maybe I’ll get off the dime and go grab that Orient Bambino V2 I’ve been torturing myself over.
Love how there is something for every taste and budget.
