Does your watch ever feel like a companion in hard times?

I read once about a diver who fell off a dive boat in rough seas and was stranded in open waters for days before finally being rescued. One of the ways he held it together, as he clung to his floatation device, was to talk to his Rolex Submariner.

I've just been through one of the worst weeks of my life. I learned my brother had suffered a head injury and had to undergo brain surgery so I hopped on a plane on short notice. Normally I travel with a handful of watches but, this time, I only had the one on my wrist: my 36mm Tudor Submariner.

There have been a lot of sleepless nights, either at the hotel or by my brother's bedside at the hospital.

I have to admit there were moments when I was tempted to talk to my watch, just to try and keep myself from losing it.

The good news is my brother is now recovering fine and is due for release to go home. With some speech therapy, we are hopeful for a full recovery.

Thank you! Still some challenges ahead but we're just grateful he's still with us.

·

Wish you and your brother well

Great to hear your brother is recovering. Going through some unexpected events in my life now, and I find my watch, specifically BB58 is comforting to me.

Everything else pales into insignificance, look after him. And tell him to get a Tudor!

·

I'm glad your brother is recovering! Wish him good health as well as you.

Glad to hear your brother is recovering well. You could engrave your Tudor with his hospital release date to mark the happy occasion after the awful scare.

That's a nice idea 🙂

I’m so sorry you and your brother had to go thru this. So priceless to have a brother next to you while you are on the hospital though - it’s amazing how much it does to recovery and wellbeing to have a loved one by your side. Best wishes to both of you!

Thoughts and prayers to you, your brother, and families for a speedy recovery 🙏. If talking to your Sub helps, even in only some small way, it's worth it and you go right on ahead. No one, certainly no one here, would think anything of it, my friend.

Sorry to hear that, hope you and your family are doing well.

My Tudor is also my companion.

A little under two years ago I woke up and had 3 massive tonic clonic seizures. My girlfriend and her mother had to phone an ambulance. It was full on movie stuff. Spasms, weird noises and my tongue had been bitten into ribbons.

Woke up in hospital god knows how long later with only a t shirt and a pair of jeans on, no shoes or socks. I had blood all over me where I’d ripped out my drip unawares in the ambulance and where my tongue had disintegrated into the gaps in my teeth.

An overnight stay and I had an epilepsy diagnosis at 29.

I must have been waiting on a bed for about 10-11 hours in a corridor my girlfriend said. All I had when I was alone and beyond confused, was my blood soaked Tudor on my wrist beating away. Focusing on that second hand rotating around just kept me grounded. Even though I barely knew my own name and had been sedated at one point, I could focus on my watch and know I was doing okay on some level.

Thankfully it’s pretty easy to clean blood off a steel bracelet and a sapphire!

Take it day by day and make time for yourself in all of this. Big love to you, your brother and your folks. It’ll get easier ❤️

Also, not to be flippant, but that’s a ridiculously stylish Tudor. What a watch! Love these.

Thank you for sharing that 🙏Hope things are much better now.

Too easy to take our lives for granted. The only way is to deal with it is, as our watches remind us, a minute at a time.

Wishing him a speedy recovery!

Heh yeah I tend to favor "old Tudor" vs modern Tudor. From an era when watches had permission to be small.

Recovery from a traumatic brain injury is a very long road. Your brother will need you to walk that road with him. I don’t know if you are based in the UK, but these guys are very helpful

·

I have a brother and would not like to be in your shoes. I hope and pray for a speedy recovery and hope he regains good functionality

·

Best of luck to you and your family! My brother was in a car accident a few years ago and while he is doing much better, he won’t ever be the same due to his brain injury. If you ever need to talk to someone who understands what you’re going through, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

·

Wishing your brother a speedy recovery. Sometimes it’s the little things that keep us going 🙏🏼

·

Glad your brother is doing better.

I’ve been through tough times the last few years and the calm predictability of my watches is definitely a kind of companion. More for staring at than talking to.

·

I suffered a traumatic head injury when I was 16, my life did not end but definitely became tougher to get through each day. My sincere best wishes that your brother recovers to enjoy all the simple benefits we deserve each day. ❤️

·

Talk to your watch or even talk to your shadow or talk to the wall… finding that release and share your emotions is key to surviving my friend… talk to us, if you need to… this forum is at time therapy at least for me… I have been through tough times myself and it can be hard expressing the frustrations, anger and fear but so you know we can share these things without judgement … hope your brother for a speedy recovery 🙏

·

Amazing news!! Wishing him a speedy recovery. ❤️‍🩹💯🙏🏻

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories. OP it’s great to hear your brother is doing better. Good for you to be by his side.

·

Wish your bro for great recovery. I have certain watches for them hard times. Mostly my G shock is my most comfort during hard times. I know we humans and get emotional but that watch keeps me in place just my personal reminder on my wrist.

·

Nope. Family bro. Wish you the best 👌
