Custom watches?

Are you a fan of customizing watches, giving it a personal touch, making it unique, like painting the dials (partly or entirely)?

That's an absolutely beautiful dial. Did you paint it?

All my "modding" efforts looked pretty rubbish. I realised that watch companies pay designers for a reason.

The only one I'm happy with is this and that's just a movement transplant from a knackered pocket watch.

It depends on an Orient or an entry-level Seiko for 200 dollars, yes, but not on my higher-end watches.

I pick out the features I like from multiple brands to make the watches I like. Basically plug and play with Seiko movements now

Wow, very steampunky watch you’ve put together there! I like it!

As for the watch I showcased, I didn’t paint it myself, but rather my fiancée’s aunt did. The watch was not running and was sitting on a shelf, it’s from my grandma. Low cost quartz. So I like to think I brought it to life and gave it a second chance. I have a #wruw post on my profile about it and will probably make a post showing a bit of behind the scenes, when the aunt was practicing.

Watches are useful art and it's always nice when a person can express themselves as an artist and make something as an artisan. I'd rather see it on commonplace watches so no rare pieces get made even rarer...

·

Ohhhh yeahhh!!! 💯

·

I don’t do it myself due to lack of gumption and skill but I do think it’s awesome

·

I have had a watch engraved by the manufacturer (Stowa), but not into modding myself. Nothing against it, just not something at the moment that interests me. Always subject to change.

Keith Moon painted his Bentley lilac with house paint. I'm down with that vibe.

·

I enjoy custom painting the dial and change the strap around. But so far I only dare doing it on Casios and SKMEIs (one of the reasons I have so many of them lying around the house 😅)

Wow! Great job man! Do you have any that you partially painted, like keeping the logo and the indices?

Yes… the skmei I used has transparent disc. I wanted to see if I can buy the transparent discs for my other project but cant seem to find where to source them.

Not really. I usuall paint over the whole dial first before I start.

A few mods really elevated my dresskx

Yes because modded seikos look so fire especially like purple or neon colors with all kinds of bands

·

Something like the fifty phantoms yes, otherwise no

·

I intend to get myself a Casio Duro and I want to swap The black dial for a white one. That will make the watch lose all its value, but on such a cheap watch doesn’t matter, so it depends on what customization and what watch

·

That is a beautifully painted dial you could probably sell those

·

Absolutely. Customization can be great.

People should do what they want, including customizing. I enjoy ordering one of a kind pieces.

·

Yes, although I haven't done any dial painting. I prefer finding the dial and case I like, and then buying multiple handsets so I can mix and match to get the exact look I want. Might try some kind of custom dial paint, but nothing like yours.

I build my own from parts. It's a great hobby.

Just a personally touch.
