Wife needs a new watch

My wife never really cared about nice brands or expensive watches but I'd still like to buy her one for our 10th year anniversary. Any good suggestions on a nice watch to get her? Maybe you've bought a nice one yourself for your wife that was highly appreciated. Please share any toughts :)

how much did wish to spent?

I would pick sth that is versatil, has a decent water resistente of like 10 ATM so you can go swimming with the watch. Just a watch that you can always wear because it's probably going to be her only expensive watch.

Always depends on her style but I think a Sinn 556, 356 or a Tudor BlackBay 36 would be a great pick. If she likes a little more shiny watches the Breitling Chronomat 36 would be a great pick too.

When she only works in an office environment you can think about a Junghans MaxBill or an Nomos Tangente. But those watches aren't that robust.

This is a lovely idea, and something I tried and tried again... I've bought my wife seven watches down the years, and she didn't wear any of them. They've all been sold. I finally asked her to pick, and she chose a tiny little step counter smart watch thingy which she never takes off. When we go hiking she issues announcements every time it vibrates for 5,000 steps, 10,000 steps etc. It's the kind of thing I'd never wear, and never choose, but I'm glad she has it because it's what works for her. Moral of the story (for me at least): tell her what you want to do, then take her to the shop, give her a budget and let her decide... Happy anniversary BTW 🥳

My opinion only:

Buy her a £100 Citizen Eco drive and use the rest of the watch budget on a weekend away for the two of you. Non watch people won't care about the engineering and craftsmanship they want something useful. You tell her that it's solar powered so she'll never have to change the battery and it instantly becomes "better" than a standard watch. Plus she'll enjoy the memories of that trip to Venice for your 10th anniversary a hell of a lot more than that £3K watch you bought her

·

maybe some square watches like cartier?

·

Take the following with a few cups of salt because it's your life and your wife and the decision is ultimately yours.

If she doesn't like luxury watches, I wouldn't get her one. Especially because it's gonna be hard to know what her taste will be.

Two things you could do: buy her something nice but affordable, spend the rest on something else. Or buy her a quartz or vintage example of a nicer brand name for the "ooh I've heard of this" factor.

·

A lot of it depends on the woman and your budget.  Does she tend to dress formally or casually?  What’s the price range?  $100, $500, $1K, $5K, $10K?

·

I had exactly this, i specifically wanted something quartz (If she had to set and wind it, it just wouldn't get worn) and with a blue dial. I ended up buying a Tissot PR100. More than adequate spec, looks nice, and no-one will get upset if it doesn't get worn or damaged.

Higher price doesn't necessarily mean better suited

Got this for my wife on our anniversary…well for me too 😉

btw she hardly wears it and wears her Apple Watch all the time…

·

Whole heartedly agree with @Scooby on this one. Congrats on the 10 years!

This is the collection of my SO:

I would take her watch shopping. Visit a couple ADs. Make a date of it. Let her choose. It will be fun for both of you and she'll get the right watch. Congrats on 10! Cheers!

Here’s how my wife got into watches:

Me: Honey, I know what I want for our 20th anniversary. I want a nice watch.

Then I started watching YouTube watch videos with her. Put some @JenniElle into the mix. Her content was very relatable for my wife. Then my wife went with me to the ADs for me to try on a few watches.

At the AD, “Hey, hon. Why don’t you try on a few too?” She will have opinions on what she likes or doesn’t like. After walking out of the store, make your offer of getting her a watch, too, if it’s something that she would like.

If she doesn’t want a watch, get her what she wants.

There is not enough info in the OP to make a reasonable suggestion.

Having said that, I cannot predict what my wife will want.  She has in the past chosen a 46mm Hamilton Pilot Day/Date, Bulova Computron, GO SeaQ, Chanel J12 and Omega Constellation. I wouldn’t want to guess what her next pick will be.

I agree with the people saying to take her shopping and let her pick her own watch.  It’s very personal.

·

I tried this, ended up getting her an Apple Watch SE which she wears all the time, compared to her previous watches which only got worn on nights out!

·

Bought this Phoibos Sea Nymph for my wife's birthday back in June.  She absolutely loves it even more than the two Tag Heuer's I bought her (ungrateful😃).  Beautiful dial and amazing quality and value.

My wife wears a £30 Casio and thinks anything more expensive is a waste. Make sure that’s something she wants, is interested in and has a need for, otherwise you’re throwing away your money.

Same, except mine exclusively wears an Apple Watch to track workouts.

·

Have you considered getting her a Graff Hallucination?

I recently met a lady who was wearing an IWC mark 18 on bracelet, and thought it’s a really tasteful choice.

·

My wife told me that her late father always wore TAG Heuer divers, so i got her an Aquaracer quartz with MOP dial, and she absolutely loves it.

Now with the story it’s not just any watch but it also reminds her of her father.

·

Apple watch ...ugg can't believe i'm recommending one of those but thats what they like.

·

Since summer has arrived, I suggest Tissot Seastar if quartz, Glycine Combat sub if automatic, both 36mm.

Hahaha This could so easly be my wife. Always walking around with her step count watch on her. She won't go to sleep before she reaches at least 12 000 steps a day.. My little weirdo.

Personally I think these are really nice and I think they are coming back in style.

Not a bad suggestion at all...

Haha this is what I'm a little afraid of 😂

Yeah man! So on her birthday got her jewelry instead she’s much happier 😂

·

Thank you all for your kind input and responses. I realise I was a bit vague on the price and style preference.. So anyways, this is what my wife finally picked out for herself. It's not quite what I would have chosen myself, but wife is happy and she wears it every day!

Here is my wife's collection of watches. I have purchased all of these for her as gifts over the years,

Image

If you ask me which ones I would recommend, it would be the following four.

Tissot PR 100 Powermatic 80

Image

Seiko SUP250

Image

Citizen Corso FE1086-04A

Image

Islander #ISL-93

Image

In my opinion, these are the four nicest watches I have purchased for my wife. However, if you ask her, the following three watches are the best watches in her collection.

Starking Skeleton Watch

Image

Starking Open Heart Watch

Image

And most recently, a $3 no-name drop-ship AliExpress quartz special that I cannot get off her wrist. 😂

Image

I bought it for her as a gag because Starry Night is her favorite Van Gogh, but she claims to have a new favorite in her collection now. 😭

Clearly, with a wife that likes watches but does not care about all the minutiae of watch-collecting as a hobby, I am better served by shopping on AliExpress for her watches, and saving my money for other gifts for her. 🤣

p.s. looks like I need to replace the battery in her Edox.
