The watch you love but will never buy and why (beyond reasons of $)

Title says it all . . . Money aside, what’s a watch that you love but will never buy for logistical/rational/life circumstance and lifestyle and other reasons?

Big Omega fan, love astronomy and all things space.

But handwound and a Chronograph, dislike both. A shame .

Longines Master Collection Retrograde Automatic

Because even the 41mm one is just too big.

I have similar views but more so the largeness for my small wrists and how much the standard speedy generally underwhelms me despite many attempts. I sometimes entertain the first omega in space as being a bit different but not quite pull the trigger interested.

That yellow gold Rolex Day-Date. I doubt I'll ever have the genteel lifestyle where such a thing would be appropriate.

·

If money were not a factor, anything gold; but specifically the Moonshine Gold Speedy.

While I'm not a mechanic or a laborer by day, I'm too hands on with things like changing flats & the like to ever make that a practical watch for me.

Yeah, anything gold for me is generally a no since I buy my watches to wear them regularly, and I don’t want to give off the wrong impression as a professor.

Gorgeous beyond belief, but the Seestern S434 scratches the itch!

The SeaQ in green is still on my list as an exit/retirement watch . . . We’ll see if the itch is still there by then :/

I like your pick, but I'm still holding out hope for a Trilobe of my very own. Love the watch, but can't swing the $$$ right now.

·

Bulova Lunar Pilot. Love the history, the design. It’s priced well. Just doesn’t fit right on my wrist, even the new smaller one has too much lug to lug.

Rolex are too "Look at Me! I have a Rollie!" for me.

·

Canopus gold speedmaster, felt/looked amazing on the wrist but I neither can afford it or can justify it at 54k.

One thing that makes me hesitant for now is that they are so damn new. Granted, they are well-received but what about 20 years from now? I suppose that’s a future me service problem haha.

It's unfortunately the TAG Heuer Monaco for me. I love it, so, so much, but it just doesn't sit right on my wrist. I fitted it in a TAG Heuer boutique and was thoroughly disappointed that it didn't instantly make me look like Heisenberg or Steve McQueen. The size is fine, but it's just too thick. I need to try it on again and make double, triple sure that it doesn't work on me, which is unlikely, as I wore a 42mm Casio Edifice at the time, but seldom wear anything bigger than 36mm today. If it was too big for me then, it's probably still too big now.

Meaning how will they be thought of? How difficult to service or contact? All of the above?

Moneys no object. Here's my pick. The Vacheron Constantin American 1912. I'd have to learn to wear it on the wrong wrist. It doesn't really work to the right wrist. I would learn real quick if it fell in my lap.

Love it . . . Think my dream VC is the 1942 triple calendar.

·

I think if I really love a watch and I have the funds I’d buy it. I love the ALS Datograph but, unfortunately, I doubt I will have the disposabe cash to buy one!

·

I'd say the MTG Samurai I love Gshock and all but I don't think I've come to that point to justify 8K for a pure tool watch.

I really like the new Zenith Pilot Chrono… but the lugs are just off… I really wish it was under 50mm lug to lug and some sore of regular bevels on the lugs…. The lugs just hit me wrong.

But frikin love the movement, dial and lambing date… splash of color… love it.

Lugs kill me

I know it would be an unpopular opinion but here's my pick - A Rolex Submariner in steel with black dial - An icon and the most recognized watch of all time in thr world and may I dare say, extremely boring too - Love it for its history and what it has done for diver watch category but at the same time if you see it on anyones wrist you are like "meh,, next!!!" - Its a watch that never excites a watch lover unless they are buying one themselves - Will get two tone bluesy anyday but wont get basic sub for that reason

I totally agree on this one

·

The Ressence Type 3. I love the way it looks and I find the way it works fascinating. It would be a big stretch financially, but if I really wanted to I could swing it. But I don't think I would ever actually wear it. I think it would look completely out of place with how I dress.

Im glad it exists. And if I ever met someone wearing it, I'd talk their ear off. But I don't think I'm the guy who wears this.

I want to own a VC one day. I need to figure how to make it happen.

·

An ALS as I was bought up middle class / working class and that sort of beautiful watch would own me , I wouldn’t own it ….. except maybe an Odysseus, I would wear the shit out of one of those 😂

·

Seiko sarx029. Import cost, rising base price point puts me off. I also heard some negative opinion about the movement being used.

·

Legend diver bronze. Only issue is the lug length. Or any Nomos for that reason too I guess. Otherwise I would definitely would have a Club by now 😫

·

Nope sorry it’s just the lack of cash that stops me buying any watch I want. if I like it and can afford it I’m having it

·
GotTheTime

I’m coming to terms with the fact that Rolex is not for me, unfortunately

Don’t worry you will get old enough eventually 😂

Glad you're enjoying it. It's a beautiful watch.

It's all down to personal preference really. I hardly ever wear anything over 37mm these days. Mostly 32-34mm.
