Ok everyone what was your very first watch that got you into this hobby? This is my Invicta pro diver with a mother of pearl dial. This watch my dad gave to me and I was hooked and never looked back. It is still in my box and I would never part with it. If you still have it, me and  everyone else would love to see it too. 👍😎

I still wear this G Shock, first over $20 watch I ever got. Before that I was a 1 watch person, but now I got a whole bunch because this one is so cool.

Pretty sure it was a Timex bought from the carousel display at the local drug store in the early 60's. Probably cost 9.99

·

Mine wasn't worth keeping LOL.

I remember Dad having a watch -nothing special, probably a Timex-, but I didn't wear one growing up. Then, the watch kiosk at the mall in the 90's had a gazillion styles, including one with a holographic eye as the dial and here I am 30 years later with 7 character watches as part of my collection.

I'm mostly enthralled with the way the gears, springs, levers, etc. work to tell time, and mostly accurately. Seeing one get repaired and watching it spring to life is as magical to me as the miracle of birth.

I’ve had several basic watches over the years, but this is the one that actually got me into the watch hobby.

Apple Watch got me into this as well. Specifically a few of the dials that I didn’t understand what they represented. Then I found watches with similar dials and sold the apple watch haha

It is not the original, nor is it the first watch I ever had, but this one does come from my childhood and was one of my earliest watches. I found this replacement on eBay.

Yeah, I didn’t understand why they called the different features complications. I hadn’t heard that term related to watches before.

it was the Steinhart OVM for me. It was a purchase influenced heavily by worn and wound‘s famous review article of the watch.

I had two that drove me to the hobby. 1997, a Movado Museum watch. Total garbage of a watch and a rip off of Nathan George Horwitt‘s Museum piece, but I didn’t know better, at the time it was luxury to me. Died three years later...a battery watch. The watch that brought me back, early 00’s, was a Tissot T-Race. Sporty, orange, and a chrono. Richard Hammond rocked on in the early Top Gear seasons, so that’s something.

I did some estate jewelry work for a few years but never let myself get attached to any of the watches I bought and sold including the Rolex OP I wore for a number of months.  The first watch I bought when I recently decided to start collecting was a Stührling Presidia 943A Automatic 42mm Skeleton because it seemed like so much value for a couple hundred dollars. Starting a watch collection wasn't expensive.  It didn't take long for the desired watches to start approaching 5 figures.

About 5 years ago I was searching for a reasonably priced watch $200-300, preferably automatic, that I wouldn't have to take off for anything.  So kinda rugged, very water-resistant, and good-looking.  I soon discovered the Seiko SKX and what a value it was.  And I immediately thereafter discovered how easy it was to mod.  That was it, I was hooked.

DIESEL DZ 4165 but I no longer own it as I gave it to my Girlfriends Son as he really liked it & I moved away from Fashion Watches immediately once I started collecting.
