Favorite Complication

What is your favorite complication? Thinking beyond simple date and day, which arguably could be the most useful, what do you find yourself using most often? My work often has me traveling, so I really enjoy any watch that can show me multiple times zones. I think my favorite is the GMT, even more than a world timer. So, if you’re fortunate enough to own a watch with your favorite complication let’s see it! If not, what is your favorite complication and what watch would you most like to have?

I'm going to take a broad position on what is a complication and say that I probably use a rotating bezel more than anything else.  I prefer no date, and would be perfectly happy without a seconds hand, but I do use the bezel occasionally.

Pretty AT!

I like the internal bezel on this titanium DJR Diverscope - part of the appeal is admittedly the slight ambiguity created by the second crown location.

My favorite complication is central seconds. I am not a complications fan. But if a complication, then a central seconds hand! :)

I know that’s not what you are asking for, but it‘s true. However when traveling, I love a GMT, but only then. At home I find chronographs useful to time my tea.

For me it would have to be chronographs:

well beyond day date. I like chronograph timers, dive bezel and Gmt hands. Reason is I work in healthcare and often have to time things to the minute, often in military time. Although, I have an easier time with calculating military without the Gmt hand more these days.

That GMT is absolute fire, man!  And, yeah, I do agree with you.  A simple GMT is always much cleaner looking than a worldtimer.

Chronograph and Alarm and Perpetual Calendar for sure.

Did you model your flighty after TGV's?

People will scoff, but it's moon phase for me. I like the look and every once in a blue moon I'm curious about how dark it will be at night. Don't have one. They all look pretty much the same, but if we're playing fantasyland, I'll take a Rolex 6062.

I like this pick! maybe it’s not the most practical complication, but the execution is almost always very cool.

Chronograph and Alarm and Perpetual Calendar for sure.

It’s cool to see an alarm mentioned. definitely something cooler to have on your wrist then on your phone.

Well not technically a complication, I think you make a great point. When I think about it, I do use the rotating bezel on my watches that have them quite often.

I have to admit that it was TGVs obsession with the Flighty that originally brought it to my attention. One of the members of our local watch enthusiasts group was getting rid of his, and his asking price was low enough that I decided to see what all of the fuss was about. There's something about how visually simple and uncluttered the dial on that watch is that appeals to me 😀

Really like this!

Probably the Casio oak. As there‘s so many perks

Being a Timex and date fanatic, I would have to go with date and Indiglo.  I guess that can be considered a complication.  I use my bezel on my Q like an egg timer or to see California time for the office I work with in LA, I'm in New York.  That's as complicated as I get, but again, you have to love that Indiglo, especially when I first wake up in the morning or in a movie theater.

Using your bezel to indicate a second time zone, is essentially a GMT function. I do that often myself. I had a Timex with Indiglo for YEARS. Now that I think about it, I miss that watch.

do we really used the watch complication in this modern age? date and day would be useful but i hate it to set everytime i wear my watch, my favourite would be a gmt.

I think you could argue that we don’t NEED our watches in this day and age, but I would sure enjoy my days less without a watch on my wrist.

A quartz Seiko will scratch that itch.

Plain and rather simple 24hr complication that I can use at work on the railway seems to be my favourite. This could change when I get my new Chronograph but for now I'm going with this one🤙🏼

That Hamilton is an absolute legend!

Thanks! I just realized that I have been wearing Omegas quite a bit lately. I just want to make it clear I’m not trying to infringe on Omeganut™️ territory. 😁

He's a Seiko fanboy now.

Hey @Percushon -what watch is on your profile page? It looks like some type of seamaster co-axial gmt chronograph…?

Image

You’re correct, a Seamaster Bullhead. I got this one because I just fell in love with the roulette dial.

·

Yeah, I love how I treat my Timex like luxury watches.  It also is a fun watch and reminds me not to take myself or life too serious, plus the memories of my first watch and my Grandfather wore a Marlin or something like it for as long as I could remember.

The only one that I own is the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date. JLC uses them a lot, and I believe there are a few Omegas that do as well. Regardless of the watch, though, I always find myself drawn to it.

Your Oris is fantastic! after I read your post, I looked at a few. I think you’re right, they really do pop.

Definitely!  I really feel naked without my watch.  I have been wearing one my entire life, even before entering this hobby.  I sleep with a watch on most of the time and if I don't it's the first thing I look for when I wake up.  Having a lot of fun with it, even if my wife things I'm having a late mid-life crisis.  lol

Totally onboard with that😉👍 That sure is a sweet collection !

Like you GMT would be my preferred complication. Although I don't travel as much as I used to the GMT complication is one of the most useful ones.

I love complications, in women as well as watches.  Simple is boring.  I love to watch a tourbillion rotate for hours at a time.  I am impressed by retrogrades and flyback chronometers but the most important complication for me is the minute repeater so I know when it is time to leave one complicated woman so I won't be detected by the next complicated woman even in the dark.

I long to have a watch featuring a minute repeater. One day, I hope!!
