The Crime of Under-Strapping

Is anyone a fellow criminal who enjoys wearing straps that are narrower than the lug width of the watch?

While its unhinged to do this on a dress watch, I can't help but love the look on a tool watch - particularly ones with fixed lug bars.

My enjoyment of wearing them this way is compounded by the knowledge that the Seiko was issued with an 18mm NATO like the one pictured despite its 20mm lugs.

Interested to see any pictures proving I'm not alone!

yeah, as a known rebel, I've done that in the past ... without giving it a second thought!

But I'm older now and more conservative than during my younger daze, so ... no, not anymore ... 😉

Reassuring to hear that you were able to reform, there may be hope for me yet!

Don't do it often if ever, only gotten more ocd-like, specific tendencies as I've gotten older in my career.

But I actually came here to say, I think that Seiko you have there looks AMAZING dude! Very cool watch, with a cool history! 👌🏻

·

I just can't. It would bother me every time that I looked at my watch.

·

Indeed, watch needs to be secure.

·

Just be careful as it will make spring bar failure more likely

·

Agree with Aurelian...can't do the Connery look

·

No, looks odd and probably less secure.

I do go the other way sometimes tho & wear 20mm straps on 19mm lug gaps or 22's on my 21mm.... In fact Omega NATO is the same for 21 & 22!!!

I happen to love this 21mm on my Breitling that is 22mm.

I would have the strap be too big and squeezed in between the lugs than too small

·

This hurts my ocd so bad, please get a 20mm Nato from us and I'll give you the second one for free, we need to fix this asap.

When you use a strap that is too small for the lugs, it looks like your watch skipped "leg day."

·

Can’t unsee that 😂😂😂 Never Never Never! 🌈

·

Yess!!! Many watches look sooo much better with a slimmer strap. When I realized this, the spare space on the sides of the strap bothered me, but now I find it cool and badass

I would love to see some more fixed lug designs on the market.

·

I love it. Kinda like a woman in the old days showing off her ankle 🥵

·

As you can see I like to fit mine with appropriate sized straps! Regardless of historic accuracy.

Is that the original Nato? Looks like its got a great bit of age to it

·

A slightly different take, but absolutely!

I absolutely go for the thin bracelet look - both of these look like the perfect match

Yes, original strap RN style slightly longer so it could fasten over a 'goonbag'! At least one hole is becoming u/s. I must have had a thinner wrist as a yoof!

Lume as strong as the strap colour! So dazzled I can barely see the lug bar!

·

That’s a no for me.
