Picking daily 'desk diver'

Still watch stocking and running through all options for my work desk 'diver'. I seem to always be in the office (even as I type this) Which of the following do you believe would be the better option for a daily not worried about roughing it up watch. I like all of these and would have ALL if I didnt control the gremlins.

While i get the appeal of those minimalist Design watches like the Sinn 556, it would be too boring as a daily wear for me. That's why i voted for the Longines.

Appreciate your honesty mate. I know what ever I get there be another knocking around in my head soon after. I don't think my watch box will ever be small 😩

I'd go with a DS30 over a DK32 personally.

The DS30 has the exact same look, but uses the 2824-2, so service is easier, and cost is lower.

·

I think I'm in the minority with this opinion, but the BB36/41 is not an Explorer alternative; it's an Oyster Perpetual alternative. So for me, they're not too similar to have both, especially if you go silver dial! I think the BB36 is the best mix of sporty/casual and would suits your needs. Granted that Longines has had my eye lately too...

·

I really dislike snowflake hands, so bye bye BB

I have enough black dials, so hello Longines!

·

As a fan of little black dial watches I voted for Sinn...

But all the Serica talk got me thinking.

For me, the Sinn is more of an everyday watch. I do appreciate the date as I never know what date it is.

While the 556 is only looked at by watch people, the Serica is so odd that 'casuals' ask about it.

·

Another vote here for the Sinn.  I have the 556 and (like you) an Explorer.  They are close in spirit, but I still wear the Sinn often.  Given the overlap with the Explorer, consider getting it on a strap.  I usually wear mine on a nato or distressed leather strap.

·

ok I do like Sinn , but I think the tudor will be a good summer and winter desk diver. :)

·

Tudor for me, Sinn 2nd.

I do tend to float over to natos. The Sinn does impress me and looks to be a great strap fiend. I love M  explorer bit wouldn't dare wear it for work. As one of my first expensive watches the rolex is never leaving. The Sinn sounding more and more like the ultimate tool combo

Yep. I know a lot perfer the black dial bur I'm very drawn to rhe sliver with crisp white hands etc. I think I a real looker

·

Can it be a desk diver if it is not a dive watch?  The metaphysics of watch enthusiasm . . .

·

Tudor

·

All very nice. If the Tudor was black, I'd say that, but I haven't seen the silver in the flesh. Of the exact options you have here, I'd be tempted by the Damasko as I think it is very thin (?), and I like that.

·

I am deeply amused that none of the desk divers you cited are actually divers. 3 pilots watches and a field watch.

I've never experienced Damasko but as a general point, I think you will feel the quality advantage Longines and Tudor have over Sinn, particularly in the bracelet area.  No surprise, they're pricier!

However, I would personally chose the Sinn over the Longines (my second choice).  I don't like the Black Bay's snowflake hands and circular hour markers.  The Longines is the prettiest by far (in my opinion) but those long lugs are tough (47mm on a 37mm just feels unbalanced on my wrist).

The Sinn is an excellently sized watch, tremendously flexible and can even be purchased with scratch resistance!  Hard to find a more versatile watch.

Hi @TonyXXX thanks for this, although you now given me another headache 😁 so literally all of Tutima? I was aware of them but this is not a brand you see in UK. Likewise Archimede and Limes. Where are Limes from. I'm assuming German as I was pushing in the German branded stuff.

Do you have any Limes watches? I like the look of most you pictured

·

Despite being the proud owner of not one but two Sinn 556s, I have voted for the gorgeous Black Bay 36.

Guess you cannot go wrong with any of those

Your right. I feel all of them would be equally great. Just picking one is stupidly hard.

·

@Max voted for the Longines Spirit. That's an auto-win. 🤣

Plus the Longines is a true strap monster thanks to its quick release bracelet and 20mm lug width.

·

Longines Spirit 37mm with the silver dial. Best overall watch for desk work as it has a date, best movement of the bunch and looks stunning.

No unfortunately not, I do plan to get one of their divers though, probably in the new year. All the watches I showed are German and I can definitely recommend Tutima watches, I purchased the Seven Seas in yellow last year and the build quality is outstanding.

The Archemdes watch is another one I want to get my hands on, they look great and from what I‘ve read and seen on YT reviews they would probably be as good as a Damasko DS30, which I do own.

End of the day buddy it really comes down to what watches speak to you and what your budget is.

Don’t get me wrong, I really like the Tudor BB36 and one day I may just grab one, same with the Longines Spirit 37mm, although a good friend of mine Peter Kotsa who reviews watches here in Australia has tried the Longines on a number of times and said that the lug to lug distance is what put him off and that he thought it was a bit blingy for that style of watch. He’s also loooked at the BB36 and said flat out it was boring and overpriced, but everyone is different and I may very well like it. We’re all different and have different tastes buddy 💯

Just take your time and the right watch will eventually just appear 👍

i do like the majority of the German offerings out there. Tutima do look like a great brand. I watch Peter Kosta quite often; he is a good review and makes a lot of sense. he is right the Longines can look a little blingy, maybe this is why i unconsciously lean towards the German greatness. I feel most of their offerings are more tool looking almost clinical. I like this.

I appreciate you help mate on this. I think i need to get on the German band wagon. I have more than a few Swiss models already.

There's a couple still available here in Australia at Define Watches at $1990 AUD but I guess the import taxes might bump that price up. I'm starting to see them come up on eBay quite a lot recently and, especially in Japan their asking stupid over the top prices. For me I wouldn't pay anymore than retail for any watch, just wait once they find they can't sell them at the ridiculous prices, they will eventually come down to something more realistic.

If not just buy a 556iRS, there's heaps of those around. That's my pick of them, but I'm biased because that's the one I picked 😉

There's always Damasko as well, I'd personally go for the DS30 model. Gnomon Watches has then in stock at the moment 👍

No completely. I don't do this pay over retail anymore. I'm over the Rolex stupidness. I will keep and eye as I did take a fancy to the yellow Dial. Not enough to pay over though. I love the damasko dial think. It really works. I think I leant towards the Sinn but If I can find a good deal on the Damasko I may fall rest way. I'm confident based on reviews and people that chime in the Damasko is just as good. It's not as well accepted it seems

·

for me the debate is between the longings spirit and the Sinn. definitely

·

The more I think this choice over I'm leaning towards thr Sinn. This is hugely based on my working practices. I work office but there is times a bullet proof watch like the Sinn is ideal. The longines whilst I love the brand is more flashy looking and visually doesn't look like it could take a beating lile the Sinn.
