The Honeymoon phase is real!

My last post was myself coping with what some call buyers remorse and not having a full on honeymoon phase with my explorer. It wasn’t the money, it was honestly the watch. A self proclaimed Rolex fan boy I wanted to love what so many think is the end all be all, GADA GOAT.

I had to be honest with myself, and after two weeks of ownership I traded that 39mm Rolex explorer in for a Brand New Cartier Santos de Cartier Large and some loose change.

Some may not understand why I did what I did. Value retention, or questioning my sanity for the trade. But what I can tell you is I’ve pretty much worn it daily… I even was excited to tell my wife about this new watch instead of wearing it for a year and being like “ohh this old thing”

Now with my new found love for Cartier I see another in my future… and btw the watch is amazing and has a style all its own.

As a perspective buyer, I’m always curious about wrist size. How big is yours and how does it wear?

The Cartier Santos is a great watch. It’s a great GADA(I don’t like that term) watch. I can understand your decision. You like what you like and value shouldn’t come into the equation. Wear it in good health. Congratulations!

·

Congrats! I love my santos and I would pick santos over explorer any day.

·

Totally understandable on the trade in, or trade “up”! Hard to not stay in the honeymoon phase perpetually when it comes to the Santos! Well done 🤙❤️🎯

My wrist is 7.25 inches and it wears big. On wrist a mirrors stance it seems to wear as big as my 41mm OP. I fell like the 39mm wears like a 41mm and the 35mm wears like a 37mm. Some say the 35mm wears like a 39mm if that was case I would have considered it an option.

I own both the present Santos with the blue dial and the older Santos 100XL, these are watches that I intend to leave for members of my family one day. Watches are really no more than adult toys, do have the power to become nostalgic talisman objects. There is a black PVD iteration that is very much on my wish list also.

Congrats! You’re not wrong. The Cartier Santos is amazing. I have the medium and absolutely love it.

As an enthusiast the value is in the wearing , you made the right call. Lovely watch.👌

·

Love is subjective. Don't rationalize it just accept you like what you like and be happy

·

That Santos is giving you the love that you wanted, in a way the explorer couldn’t.

It’s all subjective.

You’ve chosen wisely!

Enjoy

You should have kept the Explorer and added the Cartier... You never sell Rolex

Absolutely love this for you! I'm also a self proclaimed Rolex Fanboy and I'm yet to drill myself about owning one, what I do beat myself up about is, about 4/5 years ago I had the chance to buy a second hand Santos Dumont from a gentleman that fell out of love with his and I didn't take it, he was asking about $3000-$4000. I've really loved that watch ever since. I know one day I'll bite the Rolex bullet but it can wait... What I'm really anxious about is the Dumont Rose Gold XL.

Totally get it! I hope you love this watch later like you do now.

·

Well I flipping love the explorer but.. I also love the santos and many other cartier - so you can’t go wrong really!!

·

Congrats! I love the explorer but, c’mon, the santos is unlike any other watch! 😍

·

Congrats beautiful piece!

·

I love the santos. Will hopefully buy ne my self one day.

I’m cool with letting go something this common. It will never increase in value past its peak where it was around 8K. Also beyond the watch enthusiast world this isn’t a model most common people shoot arrows at. I am very confident if I really wanted an explorer I could contact my WOS rep and the wait time be close to non existent in Rolex terms.

All of my Rolex’s and this Cartier spark a lot of Joy. The Dumont was on my list, could still possibly be. You can’t go wrong with either brand. I feel like some Dumonts you can find at that price still, just not rose gold lol

As much as I like Rolex, I have always had a soft spot for the Santos. That's just about the classiest, most regal watch that I've ever seen. You definitely made the right choice! 😀

This is so interesting because I’m literally torn between an Explorer and Santos as my daily wear

The santos has its own vibe and I am enjoying it!

Your wrist is 7.25? My wrist is 6.9 and yet yours looks quite bigger than my Santos Large does on my wrist. I guess it goes to show that there is some truth to the belief that it is not just about circumference, but also how flat the top of ones wrist is.

The Explorer is a nice watch too, but not as distinct and its own as the Santos. To think that the Santos is the first known pilots watch is quite remarkable, considering back then most watches were basically just pocket watches that you put on a strap, which I believe the Santos orignally also was and yet the Santos design has since been and stayed iconic.

I know weird right? my wrists are may be a hair larger than 7.25. The medium looked fine on my wrist but I’m 6ft 200lbs so the medium looked small on my body frame, if that makes any sense.
