Thoughts on the SSC813?

I’ve been eyeing my options for my first chronograph. Anyone have experiences or useful thoughts on the SSC813? Would you buy it again if it was stolen or recommend it to a friend? Cheers from Dallas, TX

A really good friend of mine has this piece, so I've seen it first hand. The quality and looks are amazing. I think you cannot go wrong picking up this watch. A medium to small sized chronograph panda for that price is a no brainer.

Really like mine. I have both the black and white dials. Perhaps a tad small and kind of wanting to upgrade to the larger version. Great watch. The only big con has been the clasp with just 2 micro adjustment holes. Have never gotten a good fit with it. Unkle straps sells a clasp and a half link. I bought the clasp and it helped a little. The half link costs twice what the clasp is though so I haven’t done that as yet. I do recommend getting it though. Solid watch.

For a first chronograph its a great option, especially because it's quartz and you can experiment with this type of watch without spending automatic Chrono (+$1,000) money. Excellent brand, classic (ahem) design. Easy win.

I love the Daytona nod for sure. Ha

I’ve got the iced blue version and love it. I’d happily recommend it.

·

Beautiful but feels a bit light honestly

I loved it and purchased it about a month ago. But since arriving I've tried to give it a chance and I'm just not connecting with it. It's one of those watches that I appreciate on others' wrists, just maybe not my own. Actually looking to pass it on, if you're interested.

·

A great watch for the money. Sizing is perfect and looks amazing on a black strap!

You never go wrong with a Seiko...never...but I rather have a mecaquartz than a quartz chrono with solar power. There are lots of homages that carry the meca quartz movement which in my opinion give you the feel of a mechanical watch without spending big bucks... or if you insist on mechanical, the Peacock SL-4801 caliber is very reliable and accurate. Take a look...(yes...it is a #rolex Daytona homage that carries the Peacock...and many will tell you not to step into the dark side but give it a shot..you will not regret it).

BTW....don´t feel bad...the Seiko SSC813 is a 100% Daytona homage.

I love mine... despite the bracelet getting panned a lot I think it's great, and is certainly one of my very favorite grab & go watches...

·

Have owned it for just about 2 years now and I would absolutely recommend and rebuy if needed. It's still a staple in my regular rotation. The solar charge will last months with great accuracy! Also, you can put any and every strap on this bad boy and it looks great! Here's a few to sway your decision 😂

It’s definitely smaller than I’d like. I have an 8.5 inch wrist so 39mm feels small.

·

Absolutely one of my all time favorite watches and I wear it as often (or more) than my Omegas. Looks killer on a good strap.

At first I had some gripes about the watch, but ultimately the watch overcame its flaws and really grew on me.

If I lost it today, I’d immediately buy it again

I love it, especially at the current street price of ~$350. There are a bunch of color options; check them all out and pick your favorite!!

My personal fave is the SSC815 (blue with red and black accents). I have the SSC813 as well, which I wear on a black racing strap I got from Aliexpress

·

Had it. Solar cells in the sub dials bugged me (purple hue in some light). The date window is too deep set imo. Those two niggles made it not a keeper for me. Hope this is helpful 🍻

·

I own it. As long as you treat it like jewelry rather than a proper chronograph it’s great.

·

Would I buy one? No, because I couldn't live with that stupid date window location.

What size is the larger version and is it the same model number?

I too have been looking at getting one of these. Thanks for posting, great to see this input from others. Such a tempting chrono for the price, look, and Seiko heritage

Great minds think alike.

Ssc911. 41.4mm with a lug to lug of around 47. Should wear good unless someone prefers small watches

Typical seiko. The date window not being centered drives me crazy just looking at photos

I owned this watch for about a month before selling it. Great looking watch and looks even better on a black and white strap. Love the dial.... truly a panda. BUT the one thing that bothered me was the date window. It's in a odd spot between 4 and 5. And what's even worse was it was small and recessed. The date wheel sits below the solar cell panel. It was hard to see or tell the date. Kind of useless.... And I use the date function everyday. I remember the day of the week just fine but I can't remember the date for the life of me.... 😜

·

I had one. Loved it at first but sold it for a number of reasons. The date window is poorly positioned, too small and too deep. The useless unnecessary 24hr sub dial. The purple hue of the supposedly black sub dials. I also thought that the match up between the bracelet and the lugs is poor so wore the watch on a black rally strap which suited the watch perfectly.

I liked the size, the fact that it’s solar and the look of it initially. Most buyers seem to love the watch so I’m probably an outlier with my comments.

·

I was contemplating this till I saw the Dan Henry Gran Turismo 1964.

If you want a panda with a smaller case and less busy disl, plus options for 2 or 3 subdials and date or no date, I’d recommend giving them a look. Real reasonable at $280 too.

·

I picked this up last year - great size and wears great. Dial is sharp, but solar sub dials at certain light do appear purple, so if that sort of thing bothers someone, then that should be a consideration. Serves as a great grab and go piece IMO.

Yeah first thing I did was put mine on a strap and ordered a new bracelet.

Did you get a full clasp or just the clasp cover from uncle? Im wondering if that clasp cover only would fit this watch. The lack of microadjustment is really a big turn off for this watch

I got the full clasp. As I recall it was only about $12, so not a huge investment. It helped a bit. Still considering the half link but it’s $30. That and the clasp would make all the difference. Plus it looks great with a lot of different straps.

·

Im the same as few of the others, I have one but got a jubilee bracelet as the clasp only has 2 micro adjusts, I bought a new clasp but didn't seem to fit. But I am a newb when it comes to stuff like that. Would defo get it though, I've seen one going for £275 in black. Steel if you can get one for that price
