What got me into watches was when I inherited my uncle's (my late aunt's husband) 1978 Silver Dial Oyster Date. My mom gives it to me a few years ago...
I owned this watch for about a month before selling it. Great looking watch and looks even better on a black and white strap. Love the dial.... truly a panda. BUT the one thing that bothered me was the date window. It's in a odd spot between 4 and 5. And what's even worse was it was small and recessed. The date wheel sits below the solar cell panel. It was hard to see or tell the date. Kind of useless.... And I use the date function everyday. I remember the day of the week just fine but I can't remember the date for the life of me.... 😜
Well, it's like a new car test driven 20 times for 5 miles each. Is that a used car technically? Not according to the car dealer. But to me, yes. Years ago I was looking at a new truck that had about 300 miles... the dealer said it was used carefully by the salesmen for various reasons. Still sold as new... I said not quite. I had no idea where that 300 miles were accumulated. They could have driven round trip from Kansas City to Columbia, Missouri. That is USED in my book. Yet a new car that has 3 miles on the odometer driven 30 feet off the lot by the new owner is immediately considered used. Go figure....

I'd go with either black or white. No green. I'm a firm believer that a strap color should match some or all the colors on the dial...
