Shopping in Person Makes a Big Difference

Happy Saturday from Dallas Texas!

I’ve got to say that when at all possible, shop for watches in person. I’m new to the watch world and I picked out a Hamilton watch online, only to find that it’s not a good fit. So I went into the store to try on another Hamilton and found the Seiko section. Wow… what a difference in fit and feel. The second I put on this Seiko SRPE05, it was a done deal.

Needless to say, I’ll be choosing my watches in person from now on. #firstmechanicalwatch

Any similar experiences? Cheers and happy new year to everyone. ❤️⌚️🤠

I agree. It’s just hard to a good local watch shop now a days. Online shopping is killing it. I agree with you. I have bought countless watches online only to ship them right back. It sucks

Excellent choice 🐢👌! I took me several buy to build up the taste and confidence for a Seiko Turtle. I see you're a fast learner 😎 Enjoy it in good health!

Thanks man! It helps that I have an 8.5 inch wrist. The Hamilton’s just looked small on me. I naturally gravitated to the sport/dive watch section just because of the size of my wrist. I eventually want a nice dress watch like a Longines or something.

I know! Sometimes deals online are just too good. I get it. And I imagine for a more experienced collector that they’ve fine tuned what looks good and doesn’t.

Almost every watch I have purchased had no way to try it on in person and I have very few regrets.

·

What model is that? I wonder if they have that in black dial. 🤔

·

Absolutely. I bought five watches online this year, and kept only 2. Had the places I bought from not had good return policies, I wouldn’t have bought any online.

·

Haha 😆 love this shirt.

Gorgeous watch! Smart to try it on

Always in person if possible and try them on over and over and over. Don't buy to convince yourself it's right. Buy when it feels right beforehand after checking it on your wrist multiple times.

·

That King Turtle is a favorite and it feels imaging!

Facts! The best watches i own are the one i bought in store

Now it’s time to look at some bands. I’ve noticed that silicon bands tend to start irritating my skin after about 4-5 hours of wear time.

The Beads of Rice from Strapcode is a great alternative on the King Turtle. 👍

Huge fan of the King Turtle, congratulations!

The dimensions of the Turtle make it sound bigger than it is, but it wears fantastic on my 7inch wrist. Definitely worth going into watch shops to see what catches your eye before buying.

Personally, I bought this one off eBay second hand for a steal! Had to take the risk of it not fitting, but glad it all worked out 😂

I second this ! I too own a Uncle Seiko beads of rice bracelet. But here is my Turtle on a Oyster from Strapcode. Also a fantastic bracelet maker.

Agreed. When I try a watch on in person I know straight away whether I like it or not.

·

To be fair, the cushion style case of the Turtle is one of the most comfortable even in Seiko's own range, so more than a Seiko thing, it's very much a Turtle thing.

·

Color and fit. Can’t experience that on line.

I have rejected many watches for color upon seeing them in person. Fit can be overcome (OK Montblanc, where are my links 😂) but you can only trust color in person.

·

I only buy my watches in person. I want to see how it looks on the wrist before buying. There are plenty I see online that look amazing, but may not look good on my wrist.

I love the Cartier Santos and was certain I wanted to add to my collection. Tried it on at Cartier, and didn’t like the way it looked.

For me it’s crucial to see in person.

Nailed it. So true. Color and charm are just very difficult to gage via computer screen.

Yeah I wasn’t even aware of this until I went in person. Spot on man.
