If you had a $5,000 budget?

Let's pretend you have $5,000 store credit at a store that sells nearly every watch brand available. It's something that you won, rather than money you earned. Do you:

  1. Buy the one most expensive watch you can afford?

  2. Buy as many less $$ watches as possible assuming you like them?

  3. Buy 3 or 4 semi-expensive watches ($900 - 1,200 ish)?

  4. One $3-4K watch and two less expensive watches?

How would you break it down?

I'd try and negotiate for an Aqua Terra, which is outside of the budget. I'm just greedy like that.😉

·

My current wishlist has a few watches in that price range. If you asked me right now, I’d grab the Oris Kermit.

That doesn’t leave me a lot of extra money at MSRP, but whatever g-shocks tickle my fancy to fill the gap.

I'd love an Aqua Terra myself.

I would get these for myself...

Is Mrs.Dee.Bater looking over your shoulder? Trying to earn some brownie points. 🤣

LOVE these posts! I would probably try for a grouping of 2-3, lots of things on my wishlist up to $2500...so maybe a Longines Big Eye Avigation, Grand Seiko Champagne quartz, and maybe a gold Jack Mason for fun.

Nah! She couldn't care less about watches. It's just that I've seen a few of these on women's wrists, and they look incredibly sophisticated - no other women's watches seem to capture class so well!

·

I would buy a superocean because I love em, then celebrate with the change n get smashed 😉

·

Grand Seiko and chill

·

for $5,000, i’ll get a Tudor Black Bay 58 @ $4,000, a Tissot Gentleman @ $825, and the best G-Shock i can buy for $175. those three “bang for the buck” watches. should cover all the bases for me at that budget 💪⌚️🔥

·

I’m not sure about American pricing but if my currency conversion is correct, I’m going for a Pelagos 39, blue SuperOcean or Tank Américaine L.

·

500 F91Ws!!!

·

Would buy a Citizen Chronomaster AQ series for around 3000€, a Christopher Ward C6X for something like 1200€ with two straps option, and a little candy at 700-800€. Traska Seafarer is on top of the list, but other micros are in good position

Rze, Zelos, Lorier, Baltic, Clemence, Phoibos etc.

·

I would knock one grail off my list, the Tudor Ranger, and probably also get a couple of less expensive watches on my wish list.

·

Spend $4500 or so on the watch then spend the rest on a David Yurman pendant. 😁

Love that Spinnaker Picard! I just recently got introduced to the brand. I'm a fan for sure.

I also like the Shipwreck, it's more of a daily than the Picard.

·

I would go with option 4. I would get a luxory watch and then grab one or tow more with what i had left. I tried the one watch collection and couldn’t do it. I couldn’t just buy one!

I've been researching these and unless you are seeing something I'm not this is at least $700 cheaper than any on Chrono24 when taxes, shipping, duty and VAT are considered.

There is only one Oris Kermit in the U.S. of the 23 listed on Chrono24. At $3,873 it will total over $4200 at checkout.

Also just a heads up that my recent $5K Chrono24 purchase was a super shady experience and many buyers say that Chrono24 is hit or miss.

As an example Chrono24 permits a seller to list a watch as "new with box and papers" that is actually only "like new" with a blank warranty card and missing some of the original items like the outer box, promotional material and manual. That language is actually buried deep within their policies.

When I pointed out that my "new" Bulgari Octo Roma purchase had a blank warranty card, no manual, no promotional literature, no outer box and a crushed corner on the inner box they offered me $100 so that I would give satisfactory feedback for both the seller and Chrono24. Lame! I let them keep the $100 and now I share my Chrono24 experience every chance I get.

That the private party that is selling his Oris Kermit at $3500 (shipping included) is an enthusiast willing to accept a full or partial trade is an offer living rent free in my brain.

Like you I'm hoping more make their way to the secondary market with lower prices and that this doesn't become one of the rare watches that escalates in the future.

In the meantime Happy Hunting!

Yeah I just searched again now and my results match yours. I'm still hoping for a better future, but if not, that just gives me more time to save up for the higher prices anyway. ;-)

One watch. Go big

I would go with a Tudor Blackbay Chrono Panda. Switch the Bracelet with a Leather Strip and you are right there at 5k.

·

Option 4 and I would spend the whole day in that store to choose the best 😁

·

Blue FXD and use the change to take the wife out to soften the blow of another watch in the box! 😂

Smart move!

·

First is a late model Breitling Navitimer with the Valjoux 7750. My late father had one back in the day. That will run +/- $4300

With the change I can get 2 more Aragon's at least 😁

Give this man a medal!! 😂👌

·

I might get 2 watches. An Oris pointer date(around 2k) and maybe a Longines Spirit

Zulu time(around 3k) or Tudor 1926.

·

Its gonna be 3 good outstanding watches I have in mind. I’m gonna be like a kid in the candy store for sure. Wife will be so jealous all because I have 3 watches on one wrist.
