I was broke as hell ( still am ) but I managed to scrape some money and get her a small Casio, It's the Casio LTP-1234PGL-7AEG aka Casio small tank watch.
Price wise, I can agree, But in terms of horology innovation and adding more into watch making history, I disagree.
The spring drive mechanism is a work of engineering art, The best type of engineering, Is the simplest type of engineering, And engineering the spring drive to be simple and reliable takes a lot of engineering. The ultra smoothness of the seconds hard while having a semi mechanical movement inside is a feeling that only few can know, And knowing that you have a such of horology innovation masterpiece around your wrist with a beautiful dial makes it exquisite.
I know, Ultra high frequency quarts watches achieve the same smooth sweeping hand as spring drive, But the mechanical part of the watch that you feel when moving your hand around is gone, And for some of us, That a deal breaker. Then why not just get an automatic watch if you want the mechanical feel you may ask ? Some spring drive owners want that quarts accuracy with the mechanical feel.
It's the best of both worlds. Without the downsides of those worlds.
Imo, Bulova gets undeserved hate by a certain Dutch man in Belfast.
I get it, Some models are a miss but I think majority are a hit.
