Whats your first watch that started it all

Hey Watch Fam!

What is you first watch that started this watch journey for you all? Hope you can share what you learn as well!

The first watch that I bought was the Seiko SARB033 to commemorate my masters graduation and getting my first job (August 2021).

The first time I wore in was on the train commuting to the office after buying it from a seller in the morning. Brings me back a lot of joy and wonderful memories.

I started just last October 2021, and I got the Seiko SNXS79 to celebrate a good year of consulting work.

Had no idea how great this watch was when i first got it. But it launched my collecting like a rocketship.

Not the first watch I bought or owned, but the watch that made me decide to really get into it. The Maurice Aikon 42mm which my wife gave me for Christmas.

·

Bought during a black Friday sale at Long Island Watch in 2018 and haven't looked back

It was not my first watch, but it was my first automatic. This is a Technos 82S0AE, which I bought three years ago and been having fun with it ever since

·

I've been wearing a watch my entire life. Pretty much every day since high school (I'm 50 now). But it wasn't until I bought this watch in 2016 that I truly entered the hobby and became fascinated by mechanical watches and horology in general. It's the Seiko 5 Sea Urchin. Still have it in my collection today, but I removed the jangly bracelet for a Barton rubber strap.

Let me preface this by saying that I do not condone replicas but there was a time and age where copyright meant nothing to me.

I had a replica Calibre de Cartier on my wrist throughout college, the gold coating peeling off and cabochon lost somewhere by the time I decided to denounce all fakes/replicas.

I actually did not buy the watch myself, rather it was a gift. But I really took interest in Cartier because of this watch, which led me to buying the real deal 5 years ago (but different model). Maybe when I have a lot of money to spare, I'll add a real rose gold Calibre to my collection.

Swatch FLIK FLAK watch -1988 Quartz ; sweet child memories ❤

·

My first watch was a digital Casio much like the F-91-W, but was a few years before that came out (1983/1984). I remember wearing that thing all the time until I totally blew it apart when I crashed my bike. I was covered in blood and didn’t shed a tear until I looked down and saw my watch was broken. When I saw that I started bawling like a baby. Lol

·

I had watches as a child and a teenager but it wasn't till I turned 19 till I bought my first watch that really got me into the hobby. I remember seeing in the newspaper a rose gold Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 6. On seeing the price I realised it was well out of my price range. But they did it in a silver variant.

I loved the numerals in a rose gold colour, the second hand in a vibrant blue. The textured dial (before GS made them what they are today). It to me looked like the definition of success and maturity. At that time having no idea what I wanted to do with my life I used it as something to keep me motivated. It was my daily for best part of a decade. Just waiting to get it repaired.

·

One handed Luch for me. For about $50 it’s a great first mechanical piece. I’ve since sold it to help fund the purchase of the watch I’m wearing today, a Bulova Oceanographer.

·

My brother got me into watches as a kid. It wasn't till few years back that I learned about the history behind watches. So I'd say my first watch into my obsession was the Orient Bamino V3.

·

I got this pulsar from a family friend who when I graduated college. the more I wore it the more I Liked it. that’s when I got hooked - I still wear it around and the more scratches and dings the better it looks. It wears amazing - I love this thing -

Run-of-the-mill SRPD (or 5KX, or dress-KX as we usually call it) was my first mechanical. First ever watch was a casio a158 that I got in my first trip to Portugal for work 7 years ago. Still got it, battery still going, even after all this time.

Wish I had a photo to share. The 11 watch collection consists of two G-Shocks (GA-2200M-4A & GA2000-1A2), two Seiko 5's (SRPE63K1 & SNZF17K1), two Seiko Prospex (SSC489P1 & SRPG59K1), a vintage Hamilton Sinclair (my Dad's watch), an E-One Bradley, Timex Weekender, Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Roberto Clemente Edition and an Omega Aqua Terra with the steel dial and blue accents.

·

I've worn watches all my life, starting with a tiny kids Timex that my grandparents bought me to learn to tell the time on, then onto Casio digitals, Sekonda, Lorus... Basically standard Argos catalogue stuff! I remember getting a Rotary diver when I was about 14 and thinking I was a total baller with such an expensive watch (I think it cost about £35)!

The watch that properly started me down the rabbit hole of watches as a hobby - rather than just something necessary to tell the time - was my grandad's 60's Conny, which was given to me after he passed away. I don't wear it, but it sits proudly in my watch box as a reminder of him and it'll be passed down the family again when I'm gone.

Strange, it's just an image, which is not a link but a direct paste of an image. Appears as an image on my screen. Oh well.

That’s one beautiful Omega. At some point I’d love to get a vintage Omega for the collection, I’m just a bit weary of buying vintage watches online, I don’t want to end up with a frankin watch.
I love that your honouring your grandfathers memories by keeping the watch, even if you don’t wear it 🙏🏻 To me that shows you have nothing but respect for him and his memories 🥰

The Hamilton Khaki King

·

gen2 seiko monster was the first automatic that got me into autos. I bought it on ebay and camped the mailbox till it showed up. The first watch?? I was a casio kid.

This is the watch that really got me into watches. I don't have it anymore. I have developed a preference for fully mechanical timepieces.
