Personally, I do not like the look of straight end bracelets on watches and when talking vintage it raises more questions than anything else in terms of authenticity. Somehow, it always looks like an after thought. The only exception is mesh for me.

I used to be here. Then for no apparent reason I fell in love with straight ends. 🤷
It is an authentic look. One positive is that this style highlights the shape of the case as the case really is set apart from the bracelet. I think modern eyes tend to like curved end links as it looks more integrated as a whole. Either way has its pros.
Does anybody have experience trying to source original bracelets for much older timepieces? Perhaps through the magic of the internet, slightly less challenging but as a guy who was chased from collecting vintage during the late 70s and 80s, the best way to find a bracelet for a certain watch was to inherit or locate new old stock or buy a watch off some person who was checking out and didn’t need to know the time anymore.

It’s hard. Patience, a lot of eBay and Chrono24 alerts, WTB posts on WUS, etc…
I have straight end current forstner bracelets on vintage pieces I have not found the proper end links for. I hate the look, just not quite as much as I hate a strap. Always searching for the proper end links at a realistic price.

I would like to believe this, because it would certainly make finding bracelets easier.
For vintage, you gotta go vintage style leather. Just adds that extra touch to it!

I’m a bracelet guy through-and-through, but I see beautiful distressed leather straps on old watches and swoon.
In vintage, original bracelet > all
In vintage, original bracelet > all
I dunno. I have a vintage Enicar Sherpa Jet GMT and its original bracelet is one of the worst I’ve ever seen 😄

Straight end bracelets just look sloppy to me
Disagree. I’d go with leather.

Agreed. In fact, since getting curved rubber straps for my sports watches, I can't bear to see that lug gap for any strap anymore! 🤒
Nope, for bracelets straight ends look cheap and jerry(jury) rigged.
Disagree.

A bad bracelet is a bad bracelet 🤷♂️
Curved solid endlinks on an Explorer, no question, I detest flat pins on a bracelet it just looks wrong 😑

Was always in love with this early Explorer ad.

Straight on leather or mesh. Curved on brackets. I'm sure it's the law?
With all due respect to those who disagree...
Straight; definitely straight.
it depends -straight is ok for a “milanese” or a “beads of rice” bracelet but for an Oyster it has to be curved - perfectly embracing the case
I'm not such a big fan of straight-end bracelets, but I can see the appeal.
My vintage explorer's watch says hi to yours!

I don’t want to believe this is real. I love the watch. I hate that ad. The cognitive dissonance is tearing me apart.

well… the important thing is that you like it like this - de gustibus non disputandum est ! I was expressing my preferences, cheers :)
