Starting a watch collection

I was going to buy a watch, but one of my friends suggested the Seiko 5 Snxs79. I have since fallen in love with that watch and have begun to learn about all watch kinds and their respective qualities. Currently aiming to purchase a field watch and a diver watch. So I'm here looking for some idea.

There are so many choices out there it boggles the mind.

In my opinion micro brands like Wolbrook, Spinnaker and several others offer superior value and features. Especially for a new collector. Not to mention San Martin!

For a starter dive watch, I'd recommend the Casio Duro MDV106 for quartz or an Invicta Prodiver for an automatic. There's also plenty of affordable Citizen Promaster divers.

·

You can never go wrong with Seiko, Orient make some really good and affordable dive watches and numerous other styles.

Welcome to the nightmare that will never leave you that is the watchworld! 😄

Orient Bambino

If you like Seiko then try going to Long Island Watch Co. online and have a look through their catalogue. They have a TON of options from very inexpensive to pretty pricey BUT they are all excellent quality and their customer service is legendary. Hope you enjoy!

Thank you so much for your suggestions.

Personally, I think the Orient Mako II or the Ray Raven are great options for a diver. There are a lot of options for a Field watch but I would choose something like an Islander Mitchel.

While there are a lot of options all of these watches come in at around the 200 usd price point and have solid specs, are automatic, and I think make a well rounded collection with your SNXS79 without relying on a single brand.

The Duro is fantastic, as is the Invicta. Great first foray into divers.

·

Welcome, I’ve had similar thoughts about a field and diver. I’ve gone for a Hamilton field watch which should be with me soon, I did look at others like times, citizen and CWC; still no idea about the diver yet!

Timex North Field Expedition for a field

Orient Kamasu, Kanno, or Mako for a diver

·

The Seiko 5 is an excellent first Seiko.

This may be a bit of a stretch, depending on what your likes are. This Timex Waterbury is right around the $200 mark.

Citizen Eco-Drive Weekender. $165

For a diver, Seiko SKX is legendary but unfortunately it’s getting too pricey. I would recommend Orient Kamasu for the gorgeous dial and absolute bang for buck

·

Welcome. You definitely came to the right place to get ideas.
