Disappointed GS Fan

Hi everyone. Just posting to see if anyone else has had a similar experience to mine or advice to give.

Pictured above is the watch that I have been wearing for a total of 47 days. I bought it brand new from an AD and everything was working wonderfully and  exceeding my expectations (i.e. accuracy < 1 second/month). I’ve worn it everyday since I got it (again, a total of 47 days), but I made sure to switch to a G-Shock for any outdoor activities, working out, etc. I only wear this watch for walking to and from work and timing study sessions. Despite the ginger treatment of this watch, the hour subdial hand fell off while packing my lunch yesterday morning! I was shocked and a bit heartbroken. I am an amateur watchmaker who has rebuilt chronographs (including my beloved 6138 Seiko “Bullhead”) in the past, so I understand and appreciate the somewhat delicate nature of a chronograph. But to me, this seems unacceptable. To make things worse, customer service was not helpful (sent an email to them 3 days ago…still no reply). I also tried calling the customer service number listed on the GS9 Club website under the “Support“ tab (the same location I got the email from). I had to leave a message and still have not heard back from them.

So my questions to you are:

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Is this acceptable behavior from a luxury brand‘s customer service? What are your experiences with customer service from other brands?

Oh man! Sorry about your watch and that kinda sucks big time!! I expect better service with higher end products then again I expect too much nowadays anyway…Hope you get it resolved and any luck with your AD? maybe they can help out? Or better yet have better service support perhaps??

Hack the movement and take it back to the AD, or any AD if you didn’t buy from one in your area.  If you Aren’t near one, contact the one you purchased from, and they should help.  That’s a warranty repair for sure.  It probably just wasn’t seated on the pinion correctly. No watch company is perfect.

It happened to an old watch I had at one point.

I had this happen to the chrono hours hand on my SBGC201 after over a year on the wrist. I contacted the AD and they sent watch to GS for me.

When I received the watch back from GS, the same thing happened again 2 weeks later. I contacted GS directly that time and got it fixed again.

It's disappointing to see this type of issue on watches at this price and supposed quality. I was so pissed when the hand fell off again and I wondered what they even did the first time.

·

Sorry to hear this and especially from a brand that prides itself on quality etc. I hope you get it resolved quickly. BTW - that dial is awesome!!

·

Hard luck, that kind of thing hurts, but it can also just happen. I’m sure they’ll sort it out for you. In my experience (not GS expense, so maybe expectations will be differen) customer service can be a bit sluggish and so I’d give them a bit more grace than 3 days. I hope you get it sorted.

What the ....??? 🤯🤯🤯 this is crazy 😵 good luck with the watch's fixing journey to japan 🤞

·

I’d really lean on the AD for this. It can happen, but should be fixed under warranty. You should be use this as a daily wear without problems like this.

·

Sorry about your watch. It should be covered under warrantee I would think. As far as manufacturer servicing goes, it is a mixed bag. Omega has been great (then again I have a boutique in town) and Hamilton service was great, they even sent a box to send the watch bank for servicing. All three of these came back in nice travel boxes which is a nice touch.

However, Seiko servicing was less “professional” and came back simple wrapped up in bubble wrap. Not as nice a touch. And then there is my Alpina Startimer; haven’t gotten it back yet from Alpina’s service center and communication is non existent. Very disappointing.

All in all, members of the Swatch Group have been great when it comes to servicing. The others not so much. Surprising given the size of the other companies, especially as Alpina is owned by FC which in turn is owned by Citizens and we all know how big Seiko is.

Hope you get your GS serviced and they do the right thing and cover it under warrantee.

I would be PISSED! Customer service should be all over this especially for how much this piece costs and also it's the right thing to do.

What did your AD say?

Oh no! 😩🤦🏻‍♂️ I hope they get that fixed asap, that’s a horror show. 😨

·

The sluggish customer service response I find less shocking than the QC. Exquisite finishing my foot when the hands fall off!

I have bought dozens of watches from China on the cheap - only once did I have a serious QC issue with the hands, but (i) it was less severe than the hands coming off, and (ii) that particular watch cost a whopping £0.79. At GS's pricepoint such a QC issue is brand-damaging.

·

Yea, get with the AD immediately. This shouldn't happen at the price point IMHO. I hope you get it resolved quickly.

·

Grand Seiko is probably prone to having more of these sorts of issues than other brands because of their reliance on hand assembling vs machine assembling. Say what you will, but a machine can attach a hand with precisely the exact same amount of pressure hundreds of times a day, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They don’t get tired, or distracted, or have worries on their mind.

That being said, no company in any industry makes 100% issue free products. I judge therefore based on how they resolve issues. Do they handle it quickly, make you feel valued, throw in a little something extra? Or do they toss you into a bureaucratic pit.

I truly hope they take excellent care of you and that they do it quickly.

·

Oh man- that's got to be aggravating! My sympathies...

·

That's really disappointing to hear, and I hope you get a quick resolution.

I don't think it's reasonable to expect perfection, but when a QC issue like this does occur, the response by the manufacturer becomes critical. If handled correctly, it can serve to cement brand loyalty, but it sounds like they aren't really concerned with that. Has your AD been of any assistance?

I had an issue once with a watch from Norqain that failed within the warranty period. I went back to the AD, and arranged for them to send it back to the regional Norqain service center for repair.  This happened just as the lockdowns from the pandemic were causing all sorts of delays, and after a couple of months I had started getting frustrated with the time taken for a resolution. I reached out directly to Norqain, and not only did they help get the issue resolved, but they seemed to be genuinely concerned with making sure I remained a satisfied customer. That commitment to customer satisfaction turned my negative outlook of the situation into an extremely positive one.

You might want to replace it with an Invicta Bolt Zeus. It will have parts falling off as well, but it'll be cheaper. And it has a bezel cable twist. Until that falls off too🤣

Or maybe it's just shedding parts for the summer like a cat or a dog sheds fur...

I am so sorry to hear your experience. So far, my AD had provided good services to me, even helped me send my watch to Seiko for servicing, which is convenient for me. I hope your AD is able to help you resolve the issues at hand. Good luck.

Has to be fixed under warranty.  Not exceptable for GS. I love my GS but I have expectations. Come GS act "Grand" and be a luxury brand. Fix it or replace like yesterday.  Agree with thread post @jaybird7986. Hack it and call the AD
