Let's goof up the staged watch photos

Not sure about the rest of you folks but I'm shocking at photography - don't have the talent or the time. I do see lovely angles of watches at random times in the day though and think 'boy this would be nice' but then I add in my head 'if I had bla bla' in the background.

Well, to hell with it. I don't have a hunting knife, an extra-leather leather pouch, pilot's gloves, a hammer & nails, or horse reins sitting on my desk.

So here are my watch photos, trying to catch that cheeky glimpse of beauty in it - but with what's really on my desk: an ambulance bill, a speeding fine invoice, a pen, the mic for my headset + the charging cable, and the edge of a giant tin I drink water from.

Question is - what's honestly on all your desks? Would love a trend of this stuff. Or maybe I'm a messy degenerate - let me know! haha

I am too embarrassed to take a photo of my desk! You just reminded me to clean it up. 🤣

Okay, this is the not so messy side of my desk.

I try to keep my desk as clean as possible. On the other hand I have some wooden boxes and some materials I use for photography.

Great to see a fellow Australian here on WC 👍

My photography skills are somewhat Sh#t you might say, but I am trying to improve, but being limited to an iPhone doesn't help the cause.

DeeperBlue did start a post where we had to upload a different themed watch shot once a week to challenge us and our abilities as amateur photographers, but it hasn't seemed to come to fruition so far.

I've tried musically themed shots and others, I'm still trying but there is so many factors at play, like light, focusing and so on that I need to work on, but there is some great people here on WC and only to happy to help out with some advice.

My desk is messy and the lighting is harsh (fluorescent desk lamp). Totally not at all fitting for instagram. I have a hard time thinking of items to put as props so either I take inspiration from others or I make it completely blank, just the watch. 😬

i would be careful on what documents are on the table when you take the pictures :)

Fair enough! It's kind of the joke of it for me to have it there, and not ironically so! Theme of honest photos and all. Comfortable showing it but definitely worth being cautious about for others :)

Haha! You should take a look at my WRUW posts.

Here is an oldie from a few months back.  The fluorescent lighting is harsh and I have to obscure the names of my clients on documents. I have friends who are professional photographers. I hope that they never find me on this site.

I am guilty of doing the whole set up thing, I even use off camera lighting.  Photography is a hobby of mine so I really enjoy doing it.  But in the spirit of this thread, here is my current view.

I always wondered how they did patina... Earl Gray oil for the win. Don't you dare get that beauty wet.

This is the personal work area. The professional work area is to the right (and, unfortunately, still in use at this hour).  The hand is a wireless charger for the smart watch. The box with 2 lights under the monitor is a monitor switcher so I can use both displays for home PC or work laptop if needed.  Definitely not good for staging watch photos even if the light wasn't horrible... Most of my cruddy watch pics are outside with natural light.
