Tell me something interesting about your watch

The game is simple (if highly improbable): You meet someone at a party, they look down at your wrist, and ask about the watch you're wearing.

What's the watch and what interesting fact do you tell them?

There are some rules:

  • You can't talk about the specification (no-one cares that your watch has a Nivachron balance spring, co-axial escapement or 900 hours of power reserve)

  • You can't talk about how much it cost (how gauche!)

  • It can't be personal to you ("It was the watch I was wearing when my first child was born")

As an example:

"This is my Omega Speedmaster Professional. It was the first watch worn on the moon"

“I was coerced into buying this watch. It was either this or a lifetime of having my watch purchases decided by Rolex ADs.”

·

When this watch was sold, Elizabeth was about to be coronated as Queen Elizabeth the second.

·

Winston Churchill was the Prime minister for another two years after this watch was made

I was given it by the Swiss guards at the Vatican when I became Pope for a day. Of course, once they realised that they'd just appointed a common tourist who wasn't even a Roman Catholic, they soon kicked me out of office, but not before I'd managed to get 4 bottles of communion wine down my neck and eaten a case full of their wafers with a lump of gorgonzola which I carried in my pocket in case of emergencies. Anyway, cutting a long story short, when they threw me out of St. Peter's Square, they forgot to ask for their watch back. And that's how I got this Swatch.

I was given this Casio F91W as repayment for a debt incurred in a drug deal with a Colombian cartel. I don't think I'm gonna see the rest of my money.... (did it have to be true??).

I almost lost my JLC Polaris in Barcelona.

I took 2 watches to Spain. A GShock and a JLC. I wore the GShock for 5 days. On the last day I decided to switch it up, and wore the JLC. Then, my GShock was stolen from my backpack.

Wait what? Tell me more about this watch with the Nivachron balance spring, co-axial escapement and 900 hours of power reserve! 🤓

·

Look, there are over a hundred parts in this tiny thing. It tells the time without any electricity and it was built before my dad was born. Look how it plays with the light...

This model was worn:

-in space

-by a movie character

-by a terrorist

"Down my neck" you just had to be a fellow Brit with that phrase. 😂1

My SBGA445 is brought from Tokyo by a professional cyclist friend of mine, but he lives abroad so when he travelled back to Europe, I flew to Barcelona just to meet him and get the watch (same day I went back to Hungary). The purchase was made at 2023.11.11. 11:21 (he couldn't be a bit faster to buy it?? 😂)

·

Sorry. 😂🫡

My wife and I were taking a European cruise vacation, one of the planned stops was the legendary home of the Minotaur but I was distracted by a well stocked multi brand watch and jewelry boutique decided that I might check out the watches instead of an invisible man beast. Noticed a few Breitling models that were not yet available back home in Toronto, Canada, total fan of the BO1 in house movement which was still new 10 years ago, the sales agent was politely aggressive but I could not decide ( watch was expensive). After returning back to Canada was taking a noon time walk on Bloor Street passed by a boutique owned by an acquaintance who had lost his brand agency back to Switzerland B head office, saw a few watches in the show window including a worldtime iteration of the watch that I admired while on vacation.

I decided to call my friend’s office to catch up on his news about losing Breitling agency for Canada, mentioned the watch in Greece and a nicer version in his shop window. He said that if I was willing to pay cash that week, it was mine for 40% off since he was returning all unsold watches to the new sellers. He would be closing down his boutiques across Canada since Breitling was his top seller.

There is a deeply personal part of how I came to own my Breitling Transocean Worldtimer but I am trying to respect the guidelines of your post.

MERRY CHRISTMAS! Have a great NEW YEAR.

This is a Casio F-91W, the #1 best selling watch on Amazon and likely the best selling watch of all time; some estimate as many as 120 million have been sold over the past 40 years.

My kinetic watch apparently has some form of mag-lev technology in it (I have no idea if it is true)

I never had a watch that impressed anybody. But lately I've been thinking. Maybe it's 'me' they were not impressed by? But if I wear a watch, I can blame it on that. So that's why I always wear a watch.

Yes… it’s not us, brother… it’s just always the watch.

·

It's a plastic toy watch that is also radioactive and worn by the most elite US Navy special forces.

The indices are printed on the crystal not the dial.

I don't think the average person would care about that, but to me and probably a lot of other readers, that's pretty amazing.

I can’t afford a Royal Oak so went for the cheapest Swiss alternative 😂

·

My response would be "Well thank you , I have a case of them in my car boot if you want one . £10 each or three for £25 ."

·

Whichever watch I’m wearing because I like it.

·

This is the watch FP Journe designed to be his daily watch.

“Oh wow! According to this, it’s 9:08 pm! Time flies. Gotta get home and read a book in quiet. Later.”
