What is the point of the second hand?

Contentious😂

The only time the second hand has any relevance in my life, is if I'm checking how well my watch is running, when checked against my mobile phone.

Other than that it just confirms at a casual glance that my watch is running.

Although contradicting the above🙄 There is joy to be had from a lumed second hand with a red highlight sweeping along on a dive watch.

Just shot myself in the foot haven't I? 😂

What is the point ? You obviously new to watches, the second hand helps to synchronize the watch more accurately

As I stated in the first paragraph🙄 Lol

·

By looking at the second hand you can determine if your watch is still running within 2 seconds.

·

I guess one could ask what the point of a watch, wait.. what IS the point of life 🫨🫨🫨?

I like the aesthetic of the running seconds ✌️

·

Mostly to see if your watch is running. Easy enough to synch wirhout a seconds hand, just takes a few seconds longer to set to the minute and hack when the time source hits 12.

I have a few quartz and one auto without running seconds. It's liberating.

·

Check this out. No second hand.

I feel the same about date windows on watches, but that's a whole other story!

·

In 2024 there are plenty of choices available to avoid buying a watch that offends you.

Mildly amused by offensiveness of a centre-seconds complication.

·

Well, if you need to measure short time periods it is crucial to have a second hand. I do not always want to hit a chronometer button but glance at my watch and have both hands free for other things.

·

The point of a second hand is the narrow bit towards the outside of the dial.

·

·

I use it constantly. I’m a physical therapist and I often time things to 30 seconds

·

The point of the second hand is to remind oneself that they paid extra to get a mechanical watch.

All other uses are secondary 😉

·

Telling the time accurately with the first hand alone is hard, therefore most People need a second hand on their watch.

·

It lets you know the watch is running.

·

A watch is fairly pointless. The seconds hand is just the icing.

·

Now to really throw that cat amongst the pigeins🙀

I have contemplated getting one of these. 😂

·

Pigeons, I can't leave it be when there's a typo😏

·

I can’t see the point of the minute hand. Surely all we need is the hour hand.

·

My medical friends and family who are MD's, PA's and RN's need it when checking health diagnostics routinely, but that's just medical and I science related. Other fields chime in if need be.

·

Use mine all the time, cuz if the det is supposed to go boom after 6 minutes 20 seconds, if it gets to 6:21 I'm thinking, eh time fuse got some hydroscopicity.

However it gets to 6:31, I'm starting to be concerned about misfires....👀😬🤏🏻. YMMV of course. 😅😂😉

I do exercises for my plantar fascia 3 times a day, a series of 6 exercises for 15 sec each. It doesn't get much more practical than that. And yes, I also use it to tell if my watch is running.

·

Second hand totally useful many times per day.

·

I have left the second hand off in a couple builds and kinda like it. Especially a quartz. In life if seconds count your in a lot of trouble already.

·

Its obvious is it not ?

Its for staring at when your sitting in a doctor's waiting room hating life...

And on top of other, more valid reasons up above; for people who wears watches philosophically of course.

Can’t be reminded that time is fleeting when you actually have to wait one minute to see it pass by, can you? 🧐

·

Being a paranoid android I need to know my mechanical watch is running. If I didn’t have a second hand I’d forever be holding them up to my ear! 😂

·

That's exactly what the second hand is for: so you can tell your watch hasn't stopped.
