Show Us Your Oldest Watch You Have Owned Since Day One.

It was Christmas morning 1985. While sitting cross-legged on the basement mauve-colored high pile carpet next to the tinseled-out tree, I unwrapped a particularly square-boxed present…that from inside revealed a black textured plastic box which had printed on its bottom corner in gold lettering, “SEIKO”.

Image

Hallelujah! Unto me was given that day my lovely all gold-tone, faceted crystal Seiko 6923-7099!

This is my oldest all original ‘daily wear’ watch, and frankly one of my most accurate and reliable time pieces. I’m astounded at how well it has aged over the last 37 years!

Show us your oldest daily wear watch you have owned since day one and tell us a little about it.

This is my oldest, Swatch Irony 4 jewel v8. I want to say 1998, was my first stainless steel Swatch.

Oldest surviving piece, a birthday gift in 1978.  My Father purchased this (and a gold one) at Abraham & Strauss in New York.

Beautiful watch  ! At first, I thought it's a prx

Posted it several times before. Got this Seiko SQ100 in the 1980s. (This is a recent picture, and you can tell the abuse it took over the years. Still working just fine, even though the minute track has faded.)

This is the oldest watch I still have (or can find - I do have a manual Timex somewhere from my childhood but cannot find it - I really do want to find that one and see if my memory is remembering it correctly)...

Bought this one in Southampton (Long Island) during a Summer vacation with my girlfriend (now my wife) back in the 1980s...obviously I replaced the strap a long time ago and knew not what I was doing...I will have to dig it out again and give it a proper sized strap for the lug width...

Rolex 15038 34mm Date my Mom bought me in October 1986. Bought at Chow Tai Fook in Kowloon. She had a Hong Kong gold band on it, which I have retired, and I had Rolex install an alligator band with 18kt clasp when it was serviced 5 years ago. It keeps great time.

I'm not Jesus so I wasn't there on day 1.

I'm like 2000 years late to the party. ☹️

I am in Club Fossil as well. This was a gift from my sister in law in the mid-90's. I lost some watches in Katrina which would have been earlier. My father's old Timex was probably tossed in the 1970's. (That's what happened to old Timex.)

My Grandmother gave me the silver Seiko Watch in 1982 when I was fifteen she had been on holiday to Asia and brought this Watch back for me so I’ve had it for 40 years. I also have her old watch she passed away around 5 years ago at 98. Last year I serviced both watches.

The design is such a grand template for so many watch designs today. The cushion case is fantastic!

Well dang… that’s a bummer.

Is it still super accurate?

I haven't noticed a change of accuracy. Probably 3-4 seconds a month, or something in that ballpark.

I think this Casio chronograph is from around 1996 and from this surplus catalog called The Sportsman's Guide. I believe it was ~$50, marked down from ~$100. Basically my daily for 20 years or so. Beatest thing I own, shows my resistance to discarding things with some life left in them.

Now that watch has gotten some use!

The oldest watch that I have which I've owned since new is an old Timex mechanical I had when I was in my early teens. It worked when I re-discovered it a couple of years ago, but sadly is no longer functioning.

Image

The oldest functioning watch that I've owned since new is this Seiko Memory Bank Calendar watch that my wife gave me as an engagement present back in 1980. At the time, I thought that digital watches were awesome, but only had inexpensive Casio watches, so I was thrilled when she bought me this one. Still works perfectly, but hardly ever gets worn.

This is another that I have owed since new (1981).  I originally had three of these as work watches, one from 1978, and another from 1980.  Sadly the two older ones were destroyed but this one survives and is one of my most notorious pieces.

Dang! That Seiko is rare! What a great watch to have owned all of these years.

Geez, all these watches in the comments are older than me 😂. The oldest watch that I still have is the Seiko Flightmaster, which I got chose and received from my dad for my 15th birthday, back in August 2016.

It was the first time that I actively looked for a watch to buy online, so I had to be 100% sure that the purchase would be worth it. I can remember him being hesitant about the purchase, but when it arrived and we saw it in person, we were both sure that the money was well spent.

That's when I started gaining an interest in watches, and I don't plan on selling or get rid of this watch any time soon, primarily due to sentimental reasons.

I've lost the watch, but my first was a Timex from 1972.  A farmer down the street known affectionately as Old Man Fisher punched an extra hole in the leather band to accommodate my tiny wrist.  I've since lost the watch but remember it well.  I'm on the far left of this picture with the Timex on my wrist facing inwards, just like my dad wears his watches.

That Seiko will be with you for decades. What a great choice! My first expensive watch I bought myself was my Seiko Sports 150 in 1990 when I was about the age you are now. Look forward to many years with yours!

From day one!?! I got my first ever watch. That belongs to my son now.

Non of the early watches of my watch journey is still around....

·

LLBean Indiglo circa 1992ish. It just got a new strap today! I still have the original one as well.
For most of the 90s I was back and   forth between this and a quartz Gruen.  The Gruen was lost somewhere along the way.  Rip Gruen.

Did Timex make that for LL Bean?

I’ve never found a manufacturer mark.  It’s a myota movement but that’s all I know.

Fossil was the gateway drug for many enthusiasts due to their strong emphasis on nailing the design and colorway choices. Good on you for keeping it!
