New purchases, now vintage.

Just a quick question.  How many of you have watches that you purchased new that are now considered vintage?  I do not mean a watch you inherited or purchased second hand, but one which you bought new.  I have seven.  Two original Orient Makos, one orange, one yellow; an Original Bambino, my Seiko 7009, my Casio DW-290, my Pulsar Tank, and my Wenger Field Watch.

Would love some photos! I can’t say any of mine are vintage, but I do have an Orient Kamasu from the original release!

My wife was new and unused when I got her many years ago but is now in the vintage category.

My wife just entered that category herself.

When is a watch vintage 🤔 The age old question...

When is a watch vintage 🤔 The age old question...

Well, I am thinking the Pulsar, the Makos, the Gen 1 Bambino, the 7009, And the Wenger Field qualify because none of them are made anymore.  The Casio is debatable but it is 25 + years old.

When is a watch vintage 🤔 The age old question...

What is it with cars, fifteen years to qualify as a vintage model? Nice round number I could abide by given all the parallels one can draw between the two hobbies.

·

Order a Rolex Daytona, it will be vintage before you even take possession. Lololololololol 🤣

·

When does recent end and vintage begin tho? 10 years? If so I have two. Both Citizen Skyhawks

My wife and I each have a G-Shock MTG-910, the watch used in one of the Mission Impossible movies.

·

Out of curiosity, what is the minimum age for "vintage" these days?

·

I have an Orient first gen Blue Mako. Love it!!

Casio AL190W. I bought this new years ago.

·

A 1973 Seiko Dx and a TAG HEUER Carrera Twin Time from 1995ish.  Do they count?

Wow, some of you guys are seriously ballsy talking about your wives that way. Better hope they don’t come up behind you and read that…

Thank you.  It was my first “real watch” after I got the job I am now retiring from.

·

Hopefully not that controversial, but I think watches made today will NEVER be vintage. It’s not about their age, but rather materials and manufacturing methods that make a watch vintage or modern.

Poljot Buran, purchased almost new in ~2002-2003. Still works, no service yet. (will do it myself when the times comes).

And this is a Jaques Lemans F1 Watch from around ~2002-2003. Gifted it to my father back then. Just had to replace the straps for him.

Does a broken watch count? I have a Seiko Sports 150 LCD jobby that got broken at the gym about 30 years ago which I have not got around to fixing. That incident put me off wearing watches for a few decades.

I've been half-heartedly looking around for a secondhand unit with a trashed case but good internals.

Here is a pic of a functioning one lifted from eBay:

I looked at some new Seiko digitals and they just make me shake my head. No wonder you don't hear about them.

Those old stainless cased Seiko LCDs are the sort of thing some Casio fans have been wailing for.

I don’t know.  An Omega, Longines, Rolex, Breitling, Doxa, JLC, AP, or IWC made today is just as good as one made in the olden days.  Maybe even better.

I agree.  The older stainless digital Seikos were very stylish.  The new ones, not so much.

That's the point, they are better, and will not age in the same way.

Citizen Skyhawk from 2004.  Given that it's coming up on 20 years old, I think it qualifies as vintage...most of my others are about 0-12 years old.

And she's back up and running flawlessly after a capacitor change:

I also have the Skyhawk in ti. Mine is still going strong after about 20 years. My old eyes struggle to read the LCD displays these days.

It is a classic.  I am surprised that I still have it and that it runs.
