WatchCrunch representing at GS 9 Club event in LA...

Brian @Mr.Dee.Bater and Alan @Fieldwalker and myself @ChronoGuy enjoyed the best of Grand Seiko today at the GS 9 Club event at the famous Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, CA.

There were all kinds of amazing watches to please even the most jaded palate and very helpful GS folks if you wanted to get a close-up look or try one on.

Great panels throughout the day...capped off by the final panel of watch industry veterans and Mr. Wonderful himself.

They also gave us a preview of the new exclusive watches to be launched...

I'm kinda thinking about the pink dial version since I don't have anything in pink in the collection...only thing holding me back is the 36.5mm case size.

I now know how you with slimmer wrists feel when you see a really desirable watch in 44mm...the difference is I think I can make 36.5mm work...we shall see.

Fun event and it was great getting to spend some time with Brian and Alan. If I missed any of the rest of y'all...hopefully we will connect at the next event.

I didnt know Mr. Wonderful is a GS guy

He is now...and boy will he tell you.

To be fair, he did credit Teddy B with introducing him to the brand.

But he is all in now.

·

Sorry I missed you guys. I arrived late, around 4.

·

I got the invite, but sadly could not make it out! Love that you three were there representing! I hoped to add another GS this winter, but something else might be popping up and bumping it to the spring.

The blue dial 36.5mm!! 🥹 is there more info on these somewhere?

The blue dial 36.5mm!! 🥹 is there more info on these somewhere?

The blue dial is limited to GS 9 Club members who have attended a GS 9 Club event.

If you are a GS 9 Club member, you should reach out to your salesperson to see how to get one.

Something new they are doing this year.

Here are the details from GS:

Features

A Juhyo Snow Monster and Mt. Iwate-inspired mid-sized 44GS exclusive to members of GS9 Club USA

The blue dial of SBGW309 evokes wind-blown, ice-covered trees, which transform into monstrous shapes known as “snow monsters,” or juhyo in Japanese. Juhyo can be seen from Mt. Iwate on the neighboring Mt. Hachimantai, creating a distinct scene of winter beauty in Iwate Prefecture.

The 44GS, released in 1967, was the first to define the Grand Seiko Style and has evolved into a modern interpretation with contemporary practicality. SBGW309 is paired with a stainless steel bracelet with a three-fold clasp with push button release.

Assembled by hand by the craftsmen and women of Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, Caliber 9S64 is a mechanical manual-winding movement with 72 hours of power reserve and an accuracy rating of -3 to +5 seconds per day.

The SBGW309 will be exclusive to GS9 Club members at Grand Seiko Boutique Online and Grand Seiko GS9 Club events.

If you’re worried about the small case size on a large wrist, just pretend it’s 80 years ago when that was a normal thing. Buy it for historical reasons 😉

·

What a great event @ChronoGuy ! My son and I recently sat in on a discussion with Mr. Wonderful at WatchTime NY. He always has excellent insights and lots of great stories.

·

Thanks for the "exclusive" preview.

·

I am so jealous.🧐

·

Looks like a great night. Sorry I’m on the wrong coast for this one!

·

Very cool. I love the green and the blue. Too bad they are limited to the US.

I think they are US exclusive, but it's only the blue dial that requires you to be at an event.

Well...you could always try and persuade one of your compatriots on WatchCrunch who live in the US to acquire one for you...

What’s the GS 9 club?

When you purchase a qualifying Grand Seiko from a Grand Seiko boutique you are offered membership in the GS 9 Club. So not very hard to become a member just takes the right amount dosh to buy your first GS watch.

Aaahh. Planning on my first, but will buy from AD. Probably only buy one so membership probably wouldn’t benefit me although those 3 are beautiful watches. Thought it was for owners of an Evolution 9 collection, which is way out of my price range.

·

Great to hear the 3 of you get together.

Excuse a non GS expert. Where there any interesting new spring drives presented?

The good news is you can become a member of the GS 9 Club by purchasing one of the two watches that are available without attending an event.

Just visit your local GS boutique and inquire.

Thanks - no new drives just the three new colorways in the 36.5mm case size.

I decided against purchasing any of them as 36.5mm is just too small for my wrist. They are beautiful though - too bad not available in at least 39mm.

·

Too small is more okay than too big, in my opinion. 😊
