The perfect BS watch collection poll

What's your opinion about YouTube influencers trying to force feed down your throat their opinions about perfection and/or how to spend your money on watches? I admit that my own views on this are very much negative. But this is only my own opinion. What are yours?

My biggest gripe really is the monotony. Honestly, I've seen some spectacular watches just by scrolling through forums and on here... That didn't make the influencers cuts... Not even honourable mentions, probably because the other channel with 1M more viewers didn't bother to mention it 🙄.

Just goes to show how "unbiased" they really are.

There is some true in thinking that YouTube acts like one big echo chamber.

Any idiot with a camera can become a self proclaimed "expert" on YouTube...tho they do nearly all sing from the same hymn book!

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan (at least a couple of hours a day with my Mrs watching the favourites)

Very much so... Just another shitty business mindset among actually very influencing people.

I only really watch a select few now.

Just enjoy their videos for their entertainment value. Watch companies, retailers and content creators are in business to make money. Passion for watchmaking, knowledge about a brand’s heritage, understanding what makes a watch great, etc don’t pay the bills. Nico Leonard screaming “Hublot” and “GOD TIER” is what gets attention, clicks, views and money. I enjoy the content for the entertainment but I don’t base my buying decisions on their opinions. And I can’t afford 95% of the watches they discuss anyway.

·

I like having watch content to watch when I'm bored. Influencers opinions don't affect my tastes or purchases.

Most of them are extremely biased, out of touch with reality and suck up to brands they want to continue working with, so they rarely/never give an honest opinion anyway.

·

But cutting middlemen sounds too much like real work and I'm here to relax and enjoy the watches.

·

I like a lot pire review channels, but not a fan of the more “watch news” focused ones. It is painful to watch youtuber after youtuber talk about the same Rolex boring crap before and after Watches & Wonders.

·

I usually watch these guys to inform myself about (all) watches and for the entertainment factor. Sometimes I agree with what they say and sometimes I think they are talking sh*t but we are all influencers here no? Every time we post, or share a picture, every (onerous) 5 star review, and declaration that only Sapphire is good enough!

The influencers (ie all of us) on this app are way worse than any YouTubers and I’m totally here for that ❤️❤️

I pay more attention to the video than audio, and they give me a real good idea what a watch looks like. I don’t live in a big city so it’s hard for me to see watches in stores. I also like to buy gray market so if I took a lot of time up in a retail store and walked out to buy on-line it wouldn’t sit that well with me.

·

I like talking to salesmen. Hardly ever buy anything, though.

·

If you watch the right youtubers (and the right one for me doesn’t necessarily mean the right one for anyone else) you occasionally strike gold. I mostly buy affordable micros and some of my favourites are from youtubers. The ones I watch for entertainment value I don’t take seriously.

·

Only tubers I listen to are watchrevival guy,

Max, and yourterrific but yourterrific’s antics and content kinda same and boring kinda annoying lately or could just be me…

And occasional Nico leanard for a laugh… cuz I don’t take idiots seriously…

And teddy sounds fucking the same no matter watch he’s talking about?!!

Oh hell fack it all!!

·

I watch a few for the entertainment, and to see watches that interest me. Mostly it's JOMW and Relative Time these days, since both channels cover watches I find interesting, and both Jody and Shane seem to have similar tastes to mine.

I also find that both Jody and Shane avoid trying to tell you what to think, and simply point out what they like or dislike about a watch. Sometimes I agree with their points, sometimes I don't, but it never comes across as though they think their opinion is the only correct one.

·

If I see a watch that I might actually be able to afford I'll check it out but if it's just another high dollar ego show then nahhh, I'll just surf the microbrand favorites and boutiques for cool shit and pre-owned surprises.

·

Very VERY few people on YouTube are actual watch experts, and someone who knows their stuff will never actually call themselves that. Ranking brands and talking down about other people is a red flag they are looking for clicks and views rather than being honest fans of watches.

My favorite videos are ones that talk about history or techniques. Something that teaches rather than ranks and reviews.

I avoid any vid that has "expert" in the title.

It's good to have many channels to see explore and help discover new products and make clear decisions and choices afterwards. I like to have the possibility to view content in many ways as possible. It's perfectly okay to watch anything you want we just have to avoid impulse buy after only seeing one point of view on a certain product or turn our face when we see some negative content or reviews.

Some have very good stories to tell some others are there just to have clicks. Up to us to choose wisely and not take anything to seriously.

·

I can respect anyone's opinion for any watch. So I like the variety of options on youtube. But it's slowly becoming monotonous because everyone covers the same stories....how many videos can one see about the latest omega dials? Or the latest santos? etc.

Very few channels go out of their way to find something interesting to discuss. Unfortunately, I don't think it will get any better. It's already a niche market with a rather small audience. A YT channel living on # of views can't be expected to make it happen based on videos for... I don't know, PF, Greubel Forsey or DeBethune.
