You can’t lose, and you’ll eventually end up with both anyway. Pick whichever is offering the best bargain right now.

It's a no brainer, get the Orient

The Seagull is the one I actually own and enjoy. I'm sure the Kamasu is good but there are just so many automatic dive watches on the market, it gives me choice paralysis.

·

Every single dive watch ever looks exactly the damn same, except for the ones that are somehow even uglier. The Seagull is kind of interesting.

Really I just wanted to comment on the OP's Teddy Bulbasaur icon, which I find hilarious.

I have the Seagull 1963, the push buttons for the chronograph and the winding aren't really satisfying and it's now my least worn watch... That said, some versions have a sapphire caseback displaying the nice movement...

Kamasu…it will take you through hell and back

How come you guys always narrow it down to two watches that are light years apart from one another? A dive watch with a day/date vs a military pilot's chronograph.

The 1963 has greater historical significance. It's Sea-Gull ST19 movement being a result of the Swiss Venus calibre 175 purchased in 1955 which put China in the business of building watches. The Chinese air force equipped their pilots with a watch very similar. I would have to go with this choice.

Orient has a great reputation as an inexpensive watch that functions superbly but beyond that it is a dive watch in a sea of dive watches.

When in doubt, go with Japanese made

No brainer choice for the Kamasu. The water resistance and sapphire crystal mean you will not have to baby it around and you absolutely will have to do when wearing the Seagull. The Kamasu will probably even more versatile to wear with any outfit you want, while the Seagull maybe puts you a bit more in a corner. Tracksuit and Seagull…? Doesn’t look right to me.

Also, I can guarantee I use the day-date complication of a watch way more often than the chronograph.

EDIT: Also, think that the Seagull is a manual wind and the Kamasu an auto. It makes more sense too as a daily driver.

A diver or something interesting.

Is it for a daily wear, are you going to be doing stuff with it, then go for the Kamasu. For wearing just for the enjoyment of a watch go for the 63. I love my kamasu it's a totally solid watch, but if you dont need a watch for the active stuff the 63 with it's retro looks, interesting (but fragile movement) and history is a great choice.

Cantaloop

A diver or something interesting.

Exactly! It really is one or the other, isn't it?

·

The Red Star may be quartz or automatic, it doesn't come with the pretty Seagull movement by default. I can get the quartz version for $99 or the automatic for $165.

Since I have a TON of divers, I'd choose the Red Star though.

Kamasu all the way man. I love mine. Looks way better in person than any pictures, solid, sturdy, and tremendous bang-for-your-buck.

I've kicked around the idea of a Sea-gull 1963 too. Beautiful column wheel chronograph, but I'd imagine that thing's not easily serviceable.
