Official: I’m obsessed with this watch.

For about a year now I have been hunting around for a watch. I have a large collection built over many years, and my tastes have changed. I think if you are a new collector, my experience might help you. In short, I made mistakes. I became very eager and enthusiastic. As a result, I didn’t really do much research - only latterly in my (ha) ‘early period’ did I engage with some experts. I started listening to Bill Sanders and joined his YouTube channel.

I frankly didn’t have anything like the quality of watches that the other folks had, but my eyes opened to both the importance of serious hunting and the vital need to not be snooty and to look at the unobtainable glorious pieces WITHOUT any resentment or jealousy but, rather, with appreciation.

So, knowing my financial position, I looked anew at the pile of watches I’d accumulated. In many cases, I winced. Happily, I unknowingly also picked some treats, which are (mostly) in my prime collection:

Missing is the watch I put on this afternoon after enjoying my Oris.

This is a yachting watch by Muhle called a 29er. The 29er comes in several variants, I believe.

Anyway, lots of my watches I’d like to sell. Some have gone, but I have a few beauties that just don’t fit my more mature aesthetic. Hoping for some income from these (I hope) sales, I am carefully considering my next watch.

And by carefully, I mean deeply, in detail and being very picky about everything on the watch side and on the financial/value side.

And this Laco - not the most rah-rah, “hey Ma! Look at this!” watch in the world - has captured me.

I put up a poll a day or so ago asking about this watch and got some really kind and thoughtful responses. Thanks WatchCrunch and all you nice folks who hang out here!

I do wonder if you, too have been through an experience like mine, and if you have, I’d be very interested in hearing them.

I’m pretty sure our newer and younger compadres could find such a discussion useful!

Sharing information and experience is such an important part of being a human, isn’t it?

Happy best to all! 🥛🍪🍪🍪 🍁🦘

Love Laco, own two.

I am fortunate to get my more impulsive portion of collecting out of the way when I was younger and my mother worked in the jewelry industry. That being said I have still fallen victim a time or two. My biggest issue is it is hard to find many brands at a store to try on. I learned the hard way case width to lug width ratio matters to my enjoyment of a watch and I find that hard to judge when not n hand.

Very true. I’ve got a fair representation of sizes in my other, larger collection that affords me, for now, a number of size try-ins. Up to a point. Online I’m now very choosy about those essential details.

The hard part is learning those fine points.

Hard and expensive! Man, I regret a considerable number of my purchases. And it’s a pain to sell them. I find it stressful, which makes my actual keepers suffer by relation.

I have a large portion of my early collection I want to move on but not sure how to as I have no seller history anywhere.

Everything looks good about that watch, case ,crown dial and the hands, I'm very picky about hands, and those are just great.

I use Chrono24. They take a bite, but factor it in. You get security via an escrow service (which makes them a nice penny) so you know you’ll get paid. Your job is to advertise with complete honesty, ask a reasonable price - but leave room for haggling - and ship hyper-well packaged watches ASAP.

We can talk on the qt about this? I’d like to.

I still have it. I can get it to you in May, if you’d still like it? (I say this very humbly. I really am ashamed that I forgot)

What a beautiful looking watch 😎👍🏻

I love this #laco !! Beautiful dial in particular with blued edging on the hands. Is there a reference # out of curiosity? Absolutely amazing!!

That white dial looks amazing!

·

All I want to express here is that Laco is the bomb, a great value choice, and excellent builds that punch way above their price points. Fantastic piece.

Just look up Laco Cuxhaven. It has no number so far as I know. Easy to find!

The blue ‘edging’ is heat-blued steel.

This is a gorgeous watch from an excellent brand

My first collectible watch was a Laco Munster and I did plenty of research first. Still wear it the most as it’s so cool and will grow old with me.

Will do! Again, my apologies. I hope that private matter in your family has worked out well?
