Too much overlap?

Hello fellow crunchers! I am in the market for another watch and I’m looking for a no date complication. Since my conquest is back at Longines for repair (QC issue with hands), I am longing for another watch.

I stumbled upon this Spirit 40mm Ti and it’s too good of a deal to pass up as it has 27% discount from MSRP.

Any alternatives? Are these two have too much of an overlap? I’m open to a diver but definitely not a GMT since I don’t think I will maximize the function of the watch.

Goal for this year is a blue OP. What do you guys think? Cheers!

Don't worry about overlap, if something brings you joy then why not?! 😁👍

Yes sir! 🫡

·

Same maker, but really quite a different style and look. I don't see a problem with it.

·

A question I always ask myself when considering a new watch: why would I choose to wear the new watch over and above the (similar) watch I already own?

If I can’t find a compelling argument, it doesn’t matter how much I’m infatuated with the new watch, I usually walk away.

Just because I like a watch doesn’t mean I have to own it. I’m not obsessed with buying things.

·

Nah. Numbers v batons is plenty of difference

·

That Spirit is such a beautiful watch. But another one that captured my attention this year was the Tissot Herritage 1938, there’s a black dial as well, no date and COSC certified

·

For me arabacis vs. stick indices make for very different wearing experiences, so I say go for it! I had a blue OP 41 for a little while, it is a gorgeous piece, you will love it!

·

The spirit is a good watch. If you have reservation don’t do it. But in the end the spirit is a very nice addition to any watch collection

·

Don't worry about overlap! Just get the watches that you like!

·

Pretty different watch IMO, although I prefer the new Legend Diver 39mm and the Ultra-chron from the Longines's no-date options. Still, I think the Spirit is an excellent watch and I'm a sucker for titanium watches.

Goal for this year is a blue OP. What do you guys think? Cheers!

If that's the goal perhaps you should just go for it, instead of spending 1/3 its price on other watches. ;-)

I will look in to it!

May I know the reason why you don’t have the OP anymore?

A man of taste

The Longines is a nice choice

There were a couple of reasons. Personally, at that time I was after a nice blue dial with a date complication (I’m entirely too pragmatic sometimes). I also found after 3 months of wearing it the 41mm case with the male end links never sat quite right on my wrist (7”). Then I found this watch:

I really love this piece, but it was quite expensive when it came out. At the time (early 2022) Rolex secondary market prices were still really high. I decided to sell the OP and put the profit into this watch.

I still think the OP 41 with the blue dial is stunning, but at the time the trade for the one above made more sense to me. Adding a photo of the OP below, I think the dial color comes out better in enthusiast photos compared to websites.

I’m still a fan of Rolex. I got the 40mm Explorer 1 last month and I adore it. With its slightly smaller case (it’s really about 39.7mm) it sits perfectly on my wrist.

the spirit is such a underdog. Doesn't brag too much attention in the horology world but it really is fanstastic watch.

Ps we have the same wrist size, and for my taste 40mm is perfect size for open dial watches. I have 39 alpinist, with a kind of closed dial and somehow whenever i look at it, it feels kind a small.

I would think about quality vs quantity. Although not my cup of tea style-wise, the Longines Spirit is a good watch. However, it appears you already have a decent collection, which already includes a Longines. Maybe it is time to save up for something you like from a higher end brand like IWC, Rolex, GP, Zenith, Omega, etc? Buying a bunch of watches that cost a few grand prevents you from saving up for a watch in the next tier. It's up to you obviously, but I would seriously think about it.

Thank you! Wonderful pieces, by the way. I can see the logic between the trade. Wear it in good health.

Totally makes sense. Like @neomatik said, if the OP is the goal, then I should just go for it. Thank you for the honesty!

I tried the alpinist and it felt the same. Meanwhile, the same 39mm Seitona fits me perfectly.

I see no overlap other than both being Longines. The Spirit range is excellent, I have the 37mm champagne dial version. The new 39mm Legend Diver has no date and looks superb IMO.

You can't go wrong with a blue OP. Happy hunting.

·

These are very different watches. And 27% is very good. I’d jump at that if new with warranty.

Agree with Inkitatus !! Both might just become part of your daily / weekly rota, and this will be your best little pleasure to swap them and watch each of them and pay attention to the little differences.

Sounds reallyyy tempting lol

·

Spirit Ti is near perfect. 2mm shorter l2l and you’d never get a discount :)

·

The Longines is a solid choice and something that you will enjoy for years to come! It works well with so many strap options too. Such discount is a great deal!

Totally agree! On both watches.
