Omega’s availability is unparalleled but…

I am getting tired of waiting for a Rolex. Even the BB41 burgundy/chrono on a jubillee bracelet is so challenging for me to get through an AD or boutique in my area.

I oftentimes find myself walking in Omega store and ofc, stunned by how beautiful their watches are (and it’s available in any color or specifications you would like).

The question to my self is, what is keeping me from buying an Omega watch? I can even get it from resellers that can offer such a discount and yet here I am thinking for so long if I should pull the trigger or not.

Rant/frustration over 😂 any comment or insight will be appreciated.

With Omega you also get a more advanced and sophisticated movement. I have no time for Rolex (I find them boring to the point of chewing my own teeth out), but Omega is various, interesting and, in my opinion, better. Enjoy!

Don’t buy a watch that you think will replace the one you really want, it won’t scratch the itch, it will lead to disappointment and an empty wallet. Wait for what you want.

Oh yes, the trying on watches and going around boutiques I definitely enjoy 😂

On point. I believe in patience too, I just need to practice it lol

·

I guess the real question is; do you like the Omega watches? Why are you waiting for a Rolex model? Pick what you want not just a hot brand.

I purchased the frustration replacement watch, and took the financial hit when I sold it. It’s a one time mistake but boy does it sting.

Love the Panerai and the Hydroconquest, though. I hope you are not talking about those watches 😅

Speedy white dial is a keeper 👌but you’ll also have to get the ones you’re waiting for. For years I wanted the original BB burgundy with Smiley logo and ETA movement on a bracelet and the itch never went away. My excuse was the bracelet didn’t have an on the fly adjustment clasp as my Rolexes spoilt/converted me to this need. I finally got the BB this year from a secondhand dealer in great condition for a fantastic price. It was worth waiting for, especially when you can now get an aftermarket on the fly adjustment link. Finally, if you want a Rolex or BB, then in time I reckon the seamaster wart crown would annoy me.

·

You can have both. Nothing wrong with biding your time and enjoying Omega.

·

To be honest with you, if it is between that Speedmaster White dial and a Rolex Submariner (no date)/Black Bay Heritage 41 MK3 METAS 5-link, I'd choose the Speedmaster White dial any day. Just me.

·

Don’t buy an Omega in place of a Rolex. You’ll miss out on what’s great about Omegas because you’ll still yearn for that Rolex. Having said that, I wear and enjoy my Omegas more than my Rolexes.

Thank you for sharing a part of your journey and insight! Great collection you got, sir.

I can see where you are coming from. It’s really an awesome watch. How it sits on my wrist and how the bracelet flows wrapping around is just 👌🏽

And I wouldn’t put Omega as “alternative” category for Rolex. It’s a great brand on it’s own with great customer service and buying experience.

·

I would wait and try the coke Tudor but if omega offered you the handwound omega it is a good watch just can’t buy a handwound watch unless it is spectacular

·

That white Speedmaster was made for your wrist. You should buy it 😈💸

·

Omega ...... Doesn't sell as well as Rolex so they always have some stock for 99% of their model range

Omegas are fantastic! But they are a bit bulky especially in comparison to the comparable rolex model. Case depth to dial placement, etc.

Also the diver bracelets are trash. They’ll get there.

I say just wait. Or get a pelogos! Those are absolutely 10/10

Omega diver bracelets are just fine. I actually like the looks of the "tank tread" over the Rolex oyster.

However the bracelets on the non divers are missing micro adjust and it's extremely annoying.

Also you live in the land of great condition vintage / neo-vintage watches.

I will look more in to these. Thanks for the info!

Yes. Most of us on this app or “watch collectors” in general are snobs (me included). Just look at my comment on the Grand Seiko thread someone put up yesterday.

Part of collecting whether it is Pokémon cards or cars is striving for acquiring a grail (something rare). Omega (and I love omega (they are part of my collection)) doesn’t have that requisite rarity. As you pointed out, you can get one (a brand new one) at a discount any day any time on the secondary or grey market.

Most of us (unless it’s a brand specific one) go to meet ups to see things we don’t have or can’t have. Imagine a meet up where you all show up to show off your exact same model of the Mission to Earth Swatch (Boring). It’s just human nature.

Great insight.

Just realized, if what I’m looking for is rarity, then I wouldn’t be any different than any other salarymen in the subway. 5 and 6 digit submariners, variations of DJs, and even Daytona. I guess I’ll keep wearing my Casios then 😂

What Rolex are you after?

Sub no date is all I want. If I'm feeling lucky, I would wish for a Batman 😂

I wish the ceramic one was the same size as the steel. Why make it a mm larger 🤦‍♂️. Have you seen or tried the 39.5mm ceramic PO blackout?🧐

I know, right? And why not offer one with a bracelet. I'm not in to blackout watches bc number one my eyesight is really bad I can be considered as blind lol

·

They probably won't. This year will probably be a "hold prices" year as they had multiple yearly price increases since 2020.

·

Hot take

Not untrue though. I love Omega but Rolex has an incredible marketing/hype machine behind it.

They can def be hard to see, but man, you are right with their capabilities in ceramic how have they not come out with one.

New model or older reference? I’m sure the old ones are pretty available one grey market. I’d love a 116610 or 16610. But I can’t afford it 🥺
