I’m not a big lover of date window on a dial. Just to give a different perspective let me throw few of my personal reasons why:
In most cases it is just one more thing to set, usually once a month and one more thing to break (Tudor GMT)
It is pretty rare to see a well executed date on the dial. Non-matching colors (IWC), questionable placement (hate 3 o’clock position ), to deep (Omega AT), framed or frameless. It also often cuts off a spot ment for lumed hour marker
I like big date, but - again - rare, and in most cases it can be found on very expensive watches
Nice symmetry of the dial ruined for the information I’m looking for no more than once a day
Not sure if this helps, just my $0.02.
Well, my first thought was - damn, such a beautiful piece and I will never be able to afford one. 🙄It’s magnificent, congratulations, even if you are just considering the purchase. 😎
I like BB54, shame 1 year since introducing this watch my local AD is still yet to get one so I can check it on. Congrats, looks great on your wrist! 👌
Maybe it’s because I started my watch collecting fairly late, but I keep my collection small (4 pieces with 2 free spots for the future) and therefore all my watches feel special to me. I like’em all and wear regularly, but if I was to pick one, this has to be Seamaster 70th anniversary edition.
There are no options, only trade-offs. Explorer looks modern but keeps vintage size, Tudor is slightly bigger but keeps original Explorer/Ranger esthetics. Ranger is a proper tool watch with modern specs, essentially what Rolex used to be 50-60 years ago. Explorer is way more dressy with only remote connections to it’s tool watch heritage.
Tudor is for you to enjoy , Rolex is for others to notice. Rolex will attract bad guys, Tudor not so much.
Buy what you like and like what you bought.
Vintage Rolex are wonderful, this chronograph - absolute gem! Partially this is why I prefer modern Tudors over modern Rolex. 1016 is one of my favorites.
