What started it for you?

My wife really regrets buying me this SNK809 several years ago. My first mechanical watch after a few G-Shocks and Swatches and quartz Seikos over the years. Started my hobby come addiction. What watch started it for you? Do you still have it?

For me, what started it all was my First Communion watch in the 70s, unfortunately I don't have it because like every child I ended up destroying it.

·

Mine was either a Smiths or Timex in the 1970's.

Was saying on here yesterday how I remember I scratched up all the acrylic crystal so it was only readable when I licked it. ..🤣

I’m sure no one mocked you for that. Yah cheeky little watch-licker.

·

It’s a Dassari from Strapsco but it was originally a buckskin color. I darkened it with some mineral oil.

·

Swatch Sistem51…still have it.

Love the SNK. Have the green one in my collection.

·

Orient Kamasu. A green Seiko SNK was my second automatic watch 😁

·

First time I hit this drug I was 10/11 years old. My dad gave me a gold Seiko SNKK and I've been hooked since. My lady has not fully come over to the dark side but she's an enabler and I appreciate her very much for it.

My first ever watch. Never had a digital watch in my life. Now I'm fixing to get myself a square g shock and try it out.

·

Seiko - had it for many years and then sudden craziness - mid life crisis

I started out with a titanium Seiko Kinetic years ago and from that point, I was hooked. I don’t have that watch anymore, but I really wish I did.

Maybe someone can help me out, because honestly when I bought this watch maybe 8 years ago (?) I wasn’t even thinking about reference numbers or keeping the paperwork, so I can’t say I know exactly what this watch is beyond an Orient dress watch. I didn’t even really get how automatic watches worked, and even though it is a simple technology it kinda blew my mind that it didn’t have a battery and didn’t need to be wound. The dial layout and configuration is also one I still find unique and quite attractive, even if I don’t really wear it anymore.

I had a small collection of three that I didn’t consider a collection or myself a watch enthusiast yet, not until after I caught the illness to collecting knives, my fever diverted towards watches rather recently and I got this Citizen:

Seiko SKX 007. Getting ready to gift that baby to a coworker.

·

I had a transformer jet plane watch as a kid (just like this one).

Then I had a Swatch Jellyfish soon after that.

But what got me back into watches recently (after many years of wearing no watch) was the much maligned Apple Watch. That eventually led to discovering that mechanical watches still existed.

·

Mine is my Tag Link for my 25th birthday, a good 16 years ago. Had Swatches and Casios growing up but didn’t get into collecting until this piece. Waiting for late aughts fashion to come back in style.

Orient Mako Gen I circa '07 mas o menos, still have it, still wear it, still love it. Worn it for a lot of things, some even in water! (On my first Zulu here, a bond Maratac from the early web page days of janky looking java CountyComm) 😎

I had this 1, left it on holiday in Spain. Gutted! I couldn't keep a watch on my wrist so didn't have one for years after this.

My 1st real watch was a Tag Heuer Kirium Quartz that I still own but haven't changed out the battery since 2014 as I have more than enough watches in rotation

I have the same.

I have the same but replaced the bracelet with a simple leather strap

Swatch Sistem51…still have it.

Love the SNK. Have the green one in my collection.

The only Swatch that I previously owned was the Pager Watch in 1994 but the lithium battery only lasted 1 month and had to be repeatedly replaced which was an expensive exercise...

I'd never found a watch I liked the look of until I saw the Orient Golden eye. The dial is just stunning and I instantly fell in love. Still my favorite watch to this day

·

This was also my first auto. I haven't worn it in a little while, after seeing this post I put it on a leather strap and I love it again.

Thanks for sharing this. You probably saved me some money here. 😂

Walked out of Kay Jewelers maybe close to 20 years ago thinking it would never get any better. I don't wear it much these days, but I'll never part with it.

·

My first watch was this GI Joe one. I never really bothered about watches till my dad's passed away this April. I found he 1950s Seamaster dress watch and the Mondaine he received for his 21st birthday. The bug bit then. Currently up to 12 watches with one on the way.

Right before TAG entered their period of darkness! Glad to see them getting better again. I Sheba 99 TAG and always liked the company.

I don't do an awful lot of watch instagram. Do you recommend any pages?

·

For myself it was a Rolex air king my wife ( then girlfriend ) got me when we was on holiday and I needed a watch ( because a dummy like me forgot to bring one! )

Well… me of course! (Same username) I THINK you can just go and see who I’m following.

·

One of my firsts as well. I still wear it quite often, but sometimes I swear like the crown gets smaller every time I got to set the time, but how fun it is to do the Seiko shake!!

·

Islander Diver(ISL-02) got me hooked. Still love it.
