What main brand just doesn’t appeal to you?

For me, it’s Panerai. Whether it’s the #radiomir, #luminor, or #submersible, Panerai doesn’t have a single model family that appeals to me at all. I don’t like the size, the design language, or the price.

What brand has no appeal to you?

I don't know why but IWC always looks to generic and simple to me.
I also don't understand the pricing of many of their watches.

·

Anything pretentious. Penisrai included.

Anything overpriced for no good reason.

Anything with leather (because it's often cat and dog skin from China).

Anything without standard lugs.

Anything fragile which is most mechanical watches.

I basically hate everything. 😅

·

Specific brands:

All Rolex. Design hasn't been updated since 0002 BC.

Many Omega. The dial is just flat with painted markers. So boring and overpriced. (Some are nicer though.) Did you hear they went to the moon? I wish they would mention that more often. 😅

All Cartier. Stupid brand that harms a lot of animals for the sake of fashion.

I think a lot of micro brands look great but aren't as functional as I'd like.

·

I’m with you on Panerai. Another brand that I don’t like but is really popular is Junghans. They just don’t do anything for me. I can appreciate the skill in making a minimalist watch to a high leve of quality it just does not appeal.

·

Almost every brand has something in their back catalog that I like, although among the major brands, Omega, Breitling, and Tag haven't done anything in a while that I'm really into.

·

Wow is that you in the photo?! talk about coordination 😵‍💫😂

·

Panerai an Hublot immediately come to mind for me, no interest in wearing either brand

·

Almost everybody got something I like 🤔

·

Seiko’s I despise wearing them…🤫😝

This is tongue in cheek.  I feel like I have to say that with my sarcastic and slightly combative posts these days.  😜

About the leather.  We get it that you're suspicious of the industry.  Killing an animal and wearing its skin is a f'ked up thing to do regardless of the species.  Why is it so different if it's cat or dog?

And, if that's the issue, it seems like one could find a responsible strap maker who was careful about the provenance of their leather.

I agree with biker bill... I never could warm up to breitling's. I'll probably never own one unless someone gives one to me. And while I own a couple of vintage omegas they don't necessarily make it for me either. Same for Seiko. Give me a Rolex and I'll be much happier. As for the lament that their designs haven't changed in many a year.. that's because they are classics. Why mess with perfection? 😁

This might be heresy, but Patek. The finest craftmanship, no doubt.

Define "main brand"! If their watches cost north of $1000 most people who buy watches would not remotely consider them for purchase. So, in what way are they "main brands"?

Here is a controversial nomination: Casio.

They make watches that are good value, good quality, and quite a few watches I would happily buy. But...

  • lots of their watches are too small, especially when in addition they use just about a third of the dial or less to display time
  • lots of their watches are way too big, 47mm isn't even rare
  • lots of their watches are overloaded with features, e.g. who needs 5 alarms? You just end up skipping all these modes that do nothing for you, sometimes accidentally skipping the one you were looking for
  • lots of their watches are pot ugly. For example, I'd happily own a Casio Royale if it came in a nicer packaging
  • their integrated silicon watchbands; Casios are nigh indestructible? Well, their bands aren't. I do not like chucking away watches when their bands fail, just because replacement bands are hard to find, quite expensive, and difficult to fit once you got them.

When considering an online buy of a Casio, I end up scrolling through endless listings of watches I would not want, and the few I would consider are often listed with the crucial details (size, functions) missing. Yes, I could research that, but life is too short. My reaction to all that: perhaps I should get myself a Lorus instead.

Panerai, Hublot, Richard Mille and any diamond encrusted watch no matter what the brand have no appeal to me even if I could afford them.  Find minimalist watches like Junghauns very boring.  And also watch companies who charge thousands for standard ETA 2824-2 or SW200 with no regulation, a reason why Oris puts me off slightly even though they're well built.

·

Similar to Panerai in the opening picture, there are plenty of watchmakers with offerings that are generally too large for my taste. It's the reason I don't own any Citizen watches, even though their designs are otherwise appealing.

Nah… don’t speak to me either

Me likey. They quirky.

Probably a hot take here, but that brand for me is Patek. I think their watches are beautiful but most of them are too traditional or heritage looking.

I know I’ll offend many here when I mention these brands.  Just not my cup of tea, but they may work well for you.

sorry everyone!!!

Don’t know who you’re going to offend about that watch! That’s an absolute nightmare!

A few people have mentioned Patek so not a completely hot take

I picked what I assumed to be universally hated to see if anyone notices!😀😉

My actual list of disliked includes any particularly boring watch from pretty much any company.   Most Rolexs fit this description!

Are you encouraging the watch to do better? Because it would need to, to sway me.

I just looked at some random ebay listing. The first few didn't mention dial size, the first that did: 48.5mm, outch. And I don't like the Royal Oak to begin with.

Each to their own. That's also the lug to lug, not case size.

·

Same for me actually. I have friends in the Northwest that love the brand. I can't really get excited about any of them. Also IWC.

I like that you touch on lack of excitement for the brand and it’s offerings. That’s key for me. I recognize that #panerai may be well-made with a very distinct design language, but it doesn’t excite me at all.

·

Doxa.  I've owned a few and just never could bond with them, not sure why.

Interesting. #doxa definitely has a very unique style and design language so it makes sense that it wouldn’t “speak” to everyone.

Panerai, Rolex, TAG.  Did I mention Rolex?

Invicta

Movado

In person iwc look pretty cool but they are definitely really expensive
