Santos de Cartier - Scratch magnet?

Hi all,

I am chasing the medium Santos de Cartier. I ask myself how long it took you guys until it became a vibrant silver scratch collection?

A few days (read, 2), but I knew it before I got it and it didn’t stop me. I don’t like having it scarred, but I accept it. It’s part of its charm imho

·

Few days too, maybe first day 🤣

·

Well I HOPED you’d say at least a few weeks or maybe a month. 😂

·

Who is seeing scratches when all you can see is misaligned screws 🤣

·

Hahaha - exactly what a friend said lately: “you intend to pay 7,600€ for a watch that is not COSC certified and where the company is not able to align the direction if the screws?”

·

I wear mine daily and it’s not too bad

It’s not certified but usually runs +- 2 secs a day I work closely with these watches everyday. Unfortunately the people that gripe about certifications like this are not professionals in the industry. A Seiko 5 can be tuned to run within cosc

Can you proof that with a picture?

Most are hairline and pretty much not visible unless you stare at it in the light or under a loop. I probable have 2 stretches that are more prevalent. But I don’t wear my watches too hard

Indeed very decent - love the blue strap

Thanks! Though they will all be proprietary straps and on the expensive side the watch is the definition of a strap monster

·

All of the Santos like will collect scratches. It’s just a badge of honor for those that have them.

·

My Cartier watches have not sustained any scratches on the polished steel, except for my ‘92 Galbee (obviously). Got the call recently for the large green dial and loving it. Happy hunting🤙

First day at the BBQ. Still chasing events to scratch it even more. Don't care about scratches TBH. If I did; I'd wear an Apple watch.

"Scratches" >>> "Digital time telling"

·

It's beautiful man. A classy Icon. Scratches will come, but they come to all watches. Be wary of doors, hand railings, and seatbelt buckles. If you're clumsy or not ok with wearing it, I would advise against it. But if you like it and want it, let no one tell you different. Like anything in life there's a thousand excuses not to proceed, you only need a good one to go for it.

·

Just give it a light polish if it bothers you and you don't otherwise want to preserve the memory of the scratches.😜

·

Best get one on the first day then you can relax and not worry about it.

My Santos is absolutely covered in scratches and I specifically asked them NOT to polish them out when I had it serviced.

Own the watch, don't let it own you! 💪

Looking forward to pics when you've pulled the trigger.

·

I love the tank, but can’t to it for that reason. Not that waterproof and the scratches.

I bought an Apple watch, but not to wear it. I keep it in my pocket, and whenever I'm walking outside, I take it out and deliberately scratch it against any brick wall or building I go past.

It’s not that bad, don’t worry about it. It’s great watch you will love it 🥰

·

I Don't own one but the youtuber minutemon confirms that it is indeed a scratch magnet. If that doesn't bother you then it should be fine. This has nice iconic status and an in house movement.

I opted to put the tank francaise on my list instead because of the brushed bezel and absence of the non-aligned screws, but it lacks the cartier manufactured movement inside the santos, which is what kept me from pulling the trigger.

·

If you are worried about scratches, this ain't the watch for you.

·

None. That's why I bought this model.

Bingo…

·

My shiny, shiny DateJust took roughly 16 hours to become a scratch magnet. Which honestly was good, took that gut shot right away and could immediately use it wherever whenever without a worry

·

Thank you all for your advise! Much appreciated. Lets see when i will pull the trigger on the watch. Wife needs to be convinced still 🤐

·

Scratched mine peeling the stickers off ☹️

·

Ready for a different sort of scratching!

I really like the Santos, but as a daily wearer - outside the office setting - I would be too conscious of the watch and scratches. Feel the same about Grand Seiko. And it's too much to spend for it not to be worn and sit in a safe outside of special occasions. But, if you are okay with scratches - man is it an amazing watch.
