GADA Battle: Which watch should I get?

Going to get a GADA watch to celebrate a milestone. I’m stuck between the hanhart Preventor9 and Seiko Aplinist SPB117. Both are phenomenal watches. Which should I get?

Goddamn that's a tough pick. Both look great. I'd have to give the GADA win to Hanhart. The Alpinist is cool and all, but I'd say it's too "feature-full" to be a conventional GADA. Alpinists also wear on the thicker side which isn't necessarily bad, but would be another strike in the GADA qualifiers.

Two different league of watches, so have to go with the Hanhart, despite owning a few Alpinists.

·

Tudor Ranger 😁

·

The Hanhart is much more phenomenal than the Seiko, imho. Jump on it!

·

I haven't handled a hanhart, but I will say I own that exact alpinist and it does wear quite thick. Also if you want to keep it on the bracelet, keep in mind it only has 2 micro adjust holes, for me impossible to get a good fit all the time. I've put an uncle clasp on it, which gives you an extra hole and a couple of mm of room more but doesn't really fit very well and only clicks in properly if you come in at an angle :( otherwise it's a fantastic watch!

A

Never heard of the model.

Looked it up -

Now I want one too!

Thanks

😉👍🏻

Personally would go with the seiko, i think the hanhart is a bit too plain. Just because its a GADA doesn't mean it can't have a little flair imo.

·

That Hanhart is lovely. I would pick that one

·

Hanhart

Alpinist Dial is really busy

·

I grew up as a Seiko guy, but I bought the Hanhart. I have no regrets in that regard. Because of the size and the design of the Hanhart dial it feels very uncluttered.

My review of the Hanhart

·

Ohh tough one but like others said Hanhart!! Well also I’m hunting Moby Dick!!

There she blows- she blows!- she blows! 😂

An Alpinist green dial owner here. The Alpinist has a “parlor trick", always a good conversation starter on a sunny day. It has a Japanese history, an alternative to well worn Swiss/British ones. In agreement with other’s, The Hanhart, is the Newman chrono. As always, get what speaks to you.

So less features are better for go anywhere, do anything 🤔

·

Alpanist owner but if you have the pocket idgo for hanhart maybe used. Your heart must be pulling to either to compare these two because its not a fair fight with the price difference

i mean no disrespect to the literal luftwaffe. I only speak of the generally accepted style of "GADA" more than anything else👍

·

Whatever you will buy, you win 👍

The Hanhart reminds me of the Murph, it is classic and distinctive. Maybe more dressy than sporty.

I chose the Alpinist, because I saw a green / gold one rocked by a colleague and it was a great looker both in daylight and at the company's dinner. Seiko knows how to design amazing dials.

Ahh, like the Explorer 1

I had the Alpinist and found the legibility a bit of an issue. Also, mine kept awful time. Unfortunately Seiko, at this price point won't have tight timekeeping tolerances, and I'm not sure they even bother to regulate the movement, so it's pot luck if you get one that happens to keep petty good time.

All this, for me, would not make it a great gada watch, so Hanahrt.

·

I was disappointed with my Alpinist. It wore thinker than I expected even after I upgraded with a bracelet. Not super legible either. All this and the green dial meant that it didn't get much time in the rotation.

·

Hanhart has a cleaner dial and you will not be troubled by misaligned parts and the cheap jangly bracelet.

·

Alpi gmt, additional function wouldn't hurt.

·

Oh, that Hanhart is nice. I love Seiko as well but the Alpinist in particular has never been a favourite of mine.

·

I have an Alpinist, and I really like it, but I think the Hanhart is better, I have chatted to a few owners who agree, one who sold his Alpinist. You need to get hands on if possible, easy with the Seiko, not so sure with the H.

I have the Preventor 9. Great watch which keeps near perfect time and very comfortable to wear. Lovely bracelet with a very useful on the fly micro adjustment on the clasp as well. I can wholly recommend the watch.

IMO it beats the Alpinist in just about every way unless you particularly like the rotating bezel, second crown and of course the brand recognition.

How does the size wear? Is it comfortable? Does it fit well? Wear small or big? What size is your wrist?

·

I have a 165mm wrist and it fits me perfectly. As a 40mm watch with a 48mm lug to lug it wears to size or perhaps a tad smaller. It conforms well to my wrist and is very comfortable. My wrist swells in warm weather so I find the on the fly adjustment clasp very useful.
